Remember the store manager that said he'd get back to me after Christmas about my promotion? Guess who retired today and left the store forever before I even clocked in.

On the upside, my union steward asked me why I looked like I wanted to eat my own face. I told her. She said she'd try to do something about it. We'll see if something happens before my imminent departure.

New store manager's coming in tomorrow and if he's a hard rear end I'll just walk out.

I'm starting to think that this is some Harry Potter type poo poo happening to you, that you need to be kept as a janitor or something terrible will happen, so terrible that people are willing to quit rather than promote you.

Regarding phonechat, at my old job, it got so bad that I actually changed my voicemail message to "Hi, this is Agents are GO!, if you are calling me to come into work, or trying to get me to pick up a shift for you, the answer is no. Otherwise, please leave a message."

Fuckers listened to that message and still left messages asking me to come in or switch shifts.

Had to resign from my job today, because I'm the doctor couldn't let me go back with no restrictions and my medical leave ran out. On one hand, not having to expose myself to COVID19 is a silver lining, but I've been working since I was 16 and I don't like this uncertainty.

Like the tweet a few posts up says, management gets pressure too. Not that I'm letting them off the hook, but anyone who's not at the top is at the bottom these days. Rumor has it that our corporate office is referred to as "the Dungeon" and any time you're there you can find at least one middle manager or executive crying.

Good. It should be more.

Edit: wow, lovely snipe but I stand by it. Upper management should be at least as miserable as they make their subordinates. Heres my cat:

As someone who worked 3rds for 20 years, first shift is goddamn useless. Everywhere I worked, 1st shift consisted of management and all the lazy-rear end old people who had been there forever. Management always listened to them rather than us because they were in proximity to then constantly.

So my former (and possibly future) employer is giving out $1000 sign-on bonuses and is paying $15 minimum for all positions, and one of my former coworkers wrote a FB post about how they should be rewarding their loyal long-term employees instead, not new people. I really wanted to reply "Why would they, they're not having trouble getting you to show up."

I didn't because it was honestly the best place I've ever worked, and I only left because I developed a degenerative thing in my foot so I can't stand for long periods. I don't want to burn bridges if I can get a sit-down job there.

I remember reading a study about why kids, ranging from toddlers to teens, act out when they get home from school/daycare: after a full day of being as good as possible, they snap and need to vent, and for kids, that usually is a tantrum or being short and snappy.

Anyone else have that issue when you get off work? You need some time to unwind, and driving home doesn't count. I've noticed in the past few weeks that when I get home, I need like 15 minutes after my evening chores to chill out. Shower, eat something, check the forums, and then I can actually talk like myself. My mom, bless her heart, likes to yammer on the second I walk in the house, wanting me to wait for her to finish her speech of the day (she works from home), and then is surprised when my answers are short and snappy because despite me telling her I need some time to relax, the Facebook Baby Yoda memes must been laughed at.

Hells bells, are you me? When I was working and caring for my mom, she did the exact same thing. I love my mom, but that poo poo drove me nuts.

Dude, you're failing the Voight-Kampf test.

Anyhow, my first job was working at a Chinese restaurant, and the restaurants music was on a multi-cd player, that wasn't on shuffle, so I could eventually know what time it was by what muzak was playing.. It was mostly generic "Asian instrumental muzak."

Except around Christmas, when it was Christmas muzak - Asian instrumental Christmas muzak. :shepicide:

An analogy:

I am good with computers. Dicking around with computers in any capacity is enjoyable and effortless for me, even in an employment-related context.

I know people who are not good with computers. Having to interact with computers in any capacity is a stressful and unpleasant experience for them, especially in job-related contexts. Even if they've mastered what they need to know to get through those interactions without issues, it's still an unpleasant experience for them.

Some people - like myself - are not good with customers. I can do it, but it's always an unpleasant experience.
