The Tropicana right next door just remodeled their sports book. If you don't like the scene at the MGM, stop in next door.

Fremont: 2x odds (boo), $3 minimums available at all times except Friday night.
Plaza: 3-4-5x odds, $5 table on Monday night (the only time I went).
El Cortez: 10x odds, $5 table one night (Saturday probably), $3 at all other times.

My main question is what hotel should I stay at? Right now I am stuck between the Bellagio and Aria, both are at a similar price so I don't really lean anyway budget wise, just not sure about the overall experience

The four best places for poker are the Aria, Bellagio, Venetian and Wynn. You really can't go wrong with any of them, though a bunch of people are 'protesting' the Venetian because of the owner's anti-online poker stance. I don't know what limits you're looking to play, but the Aria has a $125 daily tournament that's about the best in town. You really can't go wrong no matter which one you pick, though.

1) Cabs aren't that cheap. The trip to/from the airport will run you $50 with tip, give or take. A car for the weekend costs like $70. Assuming you to go/from the airport ONLY, then you'll be saving money. Otherwise, most people will take the freedom to get around wherever.
2) Walking is fine this time of year. When it's 110+ and you're trying to walk from the MGM to the Venetian, you're going to hate everyone and everything.

The single most popular on a consistent basis is probably the Friday night at Orleans. 7pm start, $125 entry, and it pulls 140+ entries during the slower times of year. Anything that's $150+ isn't typically a daily tournament. The Venetian has a couple of dailies over $200 but I honestly don't know how many people they get; just because they're offered doesn't mean they fire. You're going to need to look at special events, like the Wynn Fall Classic or Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza.

Don't rent a car if you're going to stay at MGM. They (and all their subsidiary properties) are charging for parking.

Jay where do you think the best daily/nightly poker tournaments are in terms of value? Looking at buy-ins of roughly $200 or less. Last time I went I only played cash, but I've started getting interested in tournaments as well.

Wynn noon tournaments are the best in town for rake (11%), plus the structure and starting stack are really good. Definitely worth a look. Mon through Thursday is a lot cheaper ($140) than the weekend ($225 + $100 add-on), but still worth it.

Aria dailies are sort of a weird beast. Mon through Thursday, the 1pm at $125 is a good value. Friday to Sunday is 11am at $240. They have a 7pm that theoretically runs every night, but they cancel it without notice if they need the tables for cash games. Also, they sometimes get 70+ players and only have 3 tables open. So either get there early or prepare to be an alternate on a long-rear end list.

We don't go to Venetian. Sheldon Adelson has proven himself to be a scourge on the city and people need to stop giving him money. Fun fact: When he was the third richest man in the world, he used to answer the phone as "Sheldon the Third". If that's not the doucheist thing you've ever heard, I don't know what is.

Bellagio has a super nice room, awesome dealers, and the service is spectacular. Their daily tournaments are, unfortunately, loving dogshit. They run at 5pm and no one goes.

Caesars dailies vary in buy-in and value, but overall they're a pretty solid option.

If you're here over a weekend, the Friday night at Orleans is the nut-best in town. It's filled with regs who basically play with their hands face up. $125 buy-in and 150+ players is a slow night.

If you bust from any of these early and just want "gently caress it" poker, the 10pm at TI is pretty solid. $75 entry, $1000 guarantee prize pool, and no one gives a poo poo. It's the most exploitable game out there.

For the rentals, I don't know of a specific place. But I do know you'll never get a good price by just walking up to a counter. Set up a reservation online to get any kind of special pricing they may have. I learned this the hard way when I sold a car and had to rent for about week before I bought a new one.
