Pretty much as far away from djent as you can get really, but I'm liking the safety fire lately. I saw them on metalsucks and their video for floods of color* won me over. They're really melodic and have goofy videos, it's worth a watch if you like mellow proggish metal.

Apparently one the safety fire's guitarists was in a gnarly bike accident and hosed up his face/mouth. But seeing as they're british I couldn't tell the difference! Ha just joking, I just bought grind the ocean and really want to seem them live when they get healthy then come to the USA.

and Saccage

Saccage are fuckin cool though, they're Quebecois and sent a hand written "thanks for buying our album" note except it was in french and I had to call up one of my friends who spoke french and ask what the hell it meant.

Hey guys. I haven't posted here in like forever and as you might guess, I'm back because I need something from you. Honesty is good. My band put out an album and I think you'll like it if you're into Slough Feg, Manilla Road, or obvious stuff like Iron Maiden. Lots of guitar harmonies with a balance of heavy and melodic stuff. Think late 70s/early 80s metal before everything was super defined. (but we are still influenced by modern stuff as well) The link below takes you to bandcamp. You can listen to the whole thing there and buy it for 7 bucks if you like it that much. Either way, effluvious praise welcomed and harsh criticism tolerated.

Children of the Reptile - Children of the Reptile

Vocals own, love the guitar harmonies too. Just don't make another BYOB as hell video for a song. Enjoy my ten bucks dude.

I've been listening to the new Nocturnal album, Storming Evil. It's another unhealthy dose of blackened thrash in the vein of early Destruction, Sodom, Aura Noir and maybe even a little Kreator worship. A solid release for early 2014. I've officially lost count now on how many great bands Fenriz has turned me on to. He's like that black sheep uncle that shows up once a month in his dirty patched denim vest driving a 70s Dodge van with a Frank Frazetta mural airbrushed on the side. Only to leave you with another gem from his personal vinyl collection that reeks of stinky weed.

Thanks Uncle Fenriz! :black101:

Their old stuff is good and this new album owns even more now that their recording budget has seemingly doubled from "cost of a six pack" to "cost of a twelve pack." Vocals aren't too shabby as well.

Exciting news. I've booked in studio time on Sunday to go and make the ultimate Metal guitar and bass tone possible! It'll be fast, heavy, loud and for a guitar nerd like me, ridiculously good fun.

So on this Public Holiday, I'm gonna listen to a whole bunch of awesome sounding bands on my monitors and find a point of reference. A guitar\bass sound that sounds awesome, which I will then improve on.

I have many points of reference in mind, but suggestions are welcome! What metal band had the best sounding guitars?

For bass tone, it's not metal, but punk. Take a listen to 88 Fingers Louie:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=croeljPMpMQ

For guitar and bass tone, you can't beat the Bjoler brothers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF3clTWMx8o

Youtube rips don't do any of those songs justice, so I highly recommend finding those albums and support those two great bands, even if they're disbanded or the appropriate players aren't in the bands anymore.

I think guitar and bass tones really rely on what kind of genre/sound you're looking for. A super crunch or super fuzz guitar will sound awesome in some styles but stink in others. A twangy bass sound works for some styles where a deep tone works for others. Mileage may vary.

The tones, vocals, and drums from "The Haunted - Versus" is versatile and fits any style.
