Those of you who like indie pop/rock acts with a chick vocalist you should check out Field Mouse. Also, I'm pretty sure the guitarist is a goon though I don't know his username. I found out about this band when he or another member posted a thread about their album last year or the year before. Check out one of the tracks from their album You Are Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JftIndZHbZ4 They've released a couple new songs over the last few months but I haven't had a chance to listen to them yet. The album is really solid though.

Anyone else listen to Wintersleep? Welcome to The Night Sky is a freaking great album in my opinion and I (finally) just got their 2010 album New Inheritors. Not bad but nowhere near as good as WttNS. The lead singers voice seems to have changed in the 3 years between albums which I'm not crazy about. Now I learn that there's another album that either just came out or is coming out later this year? Anyone listened to it yet if it's out? First 2 albums sound the same, just a man and his guitar, but the newest album has a lot more energy to it and a much broader sound due to the poo poo-ton of backing instruments he included. I mean seriously, he used to be a man who used to just play stripped down acoustic stuff, and now he's touring with like a dozen other musicians, horns and bongos and poo poo. Pretty much Kiss Each Other Clean is a fantastic album, definitely in my top 10 of 2011. His third album Shepherds Dog is also really good.

So I know I'm 3 years behind the times but can I say that I absolutely love the AV Club's Undercover series? Great mix of bands doing a great mix of covers every year, I've found a bunch of new bands I want to try out from this series. I wish they put out mp3s of all the tracks because I'd love to have them on my iPod. Pretty sure I can use some sort of Youtube ripping program if I have to though. The one bad thing is that before every video is a little Starbucks commercial but you can skip it right away so it's not a huge deal. Check out one of my favorites from this years series; Sharon Van Etten and Shearwater covering "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around": http://www.avclub.com/articles/sharon-van-etten-and-shearwater-cover-stop-draggin,70683/

Ignem Aeternem posted:Hey, I'm having the chance to see My Bloody Valentine in February next year, I was wondering if anyone had seen them in recent years since they reformed, are they what they used to be? Or am I going to end up heartbroken that they didn't live up to everything I had hoped? I saw them at All Points West festival in 2009 and I was honestly disappointed. They really are one of the loudest bands you'll ever see but instead of being awesome it was just painful. Maybe it's because it was outdoors but the mix was terrible, all you could hear was feedback. I remember thinking, "Oh now I recognize this track, but shouldn't he be singing right now?" and then looking up at the video monitors and seeing his mouth moving. It was like his mic wasn't even turned on. My friend and I had to bail because it was just unenjoyable being in front of the stage, however we sat down halfway across the park and the volume was loud enough that we could hear clearly but not painful anymore and it was actually more enjoyable listening from far away. For some reason they went on before Tool headlined the night and I heard later that the feedback and noise made a bunch of people vomit. Don't get too discouraged though, if the sound is mixed better than when I saw them and you make sure you wear earplugs there's a chance you'll enjoy the show. e: Forgot what year I was at APW.

Alexander hops on the Jesus train a little too much for me, but there are some great songs like "Man on Fire", "Mayla", "Child", and "All Wash Out." Give it a spin on Spotify at least. They said they have another one coming out this year I think. I actually worked as a production assistant at one of their shows in 2010. Great experience, they're such chill people. I have a lot of great memories from that show; it was an outdoor show in the summer and there was such a huge amount of positive energy that night. I remember watching the encore from on top of our production trailer next to the stage and Alex got almost the whole crowd to sit Indian style with him in the middle of them and sing along to one of their songs. I almost tripped into one of the Olsen twins walking around backstage that night. I also got my favorite "I met someone famous" stories from then. After the show a coworker and I ran into Alex back stage and my coworker was like "Hey man congrats, great show" and Alex kinda didn't react so my friend kept walking. As I was passing him, Alex grabbed me and said "Man I hope he's not mad at me, I didn't mean to blow him off, I'm just really really high right now, please tell him I'm sorry." I thought that was just the funniest thing, and that it was super sweet that he was so worried that my co-worker was mad at him.

I know there's a couple other Cheap Girls fans in the thread so I wanted to post some links. Lead singer Ian had knee surgery earlier this year and to help pay his medical bills they put up an acoustic version of My Roaring 20's: http://quoteunquoterecords.com/qur063.htm You can download it for free but there's also a paypal link to donate if you so choose. They also put a live album up on their bandcamp which you can stream for free or download for 6 bucks: http://cheapgirls.bandcamp.com/ I haven't listened to the live album yet but the acoustic album is interesting. I'd say it's worth a listen but the regular album is definitely better. EDIT: Acoustic version of All My Clean Friends is the highlight, I really need to learn the chords to this song.
