Butcher really should find a way to integrate the Zombie Riding Dinosaur poster in somewhere like a back cover. That's pure artistic gold.

AlphaDog posted:Just started Rook, since I got to about 90% of the way through the first Greywalker and relised I hadn't given a gently caress about the story since about the half way mark (if it gets better, I'll slog through to the good bits). I'm halfway through book 2 of grey walker and I'm about to just shut it down. I'll probably pick up The Rook if I do as it seems to be getting good feedback

ConfusedUs posted:It's action packed and bloody as hell, but we, the reader, have no loving clue what's going on for far too long. This sounds like the Malazan Book of the Fallen which turned out to be an amazing story. It's just so god drat confusing starting out.

Greywalker just never really clicked for me. I made it through a few books and then it just got kinda meh, the books will be emergency content reads probably. I read the first dagger and coin book and it has a free space opera novel at the end I just found. Whoop!

Devorum posted:A large part of that was the bitterness of a 10-11 year wait for a book published in two halves, neither of which were close to quality of the previous books. All while the author blogged incessantly about cons and football, and had an assistant screen any negative thoughts so he could live in an echo chamber where everyone was happy to wait a decade or more for the next novel while being told repeatedly he was almost done. It's no surprise we all went a bit WILD CARDS! after a while. It's not as bad as it used to be, though. "Go Jets! I just ordered a pizza! Might work on the book later." Never forget.

Whoever recommended the Metro 2033 books in this thread must have been desperate for a book. I'm about halfway through it and my brain hurts so bad, but now I need to know what happens to this poor little guy living in the sewers under Moscow after a total nuclear war + 40 years . The Russian > English translation leaves a little bit to be desired.
