Lime Tonics posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKBnPnYh8iw That's pretty impressive! There's been a couple of instances of cars driving the transport stages on just three wheels and getting stopped by the cops. One was with Loeb (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esSG0RyCFCw), but there was also another case that I thought was Marcus Gronholm but apparently not. I remember the driver trying to hilariously argue with the police how he totally can drive on three wheels since he clearly got that far already. Any ideas who it was?

If not lovely people would be touching "trying to get a better look" and parents would see it as permission to let their kids run roughshod and touch/get into everything. Germany there was respect to not touch. Maybe it's a side effect of having a rich corporate daddy, because not all of them are like that. Like in the Speyer and Sinsheim museums you can get onto a train or u-boot, but most cars are behind ropes: Possibly because of this: bird cooch posted:Same with the porche museum. The Buick episode would've been perfectly fine as part 1 of a two parter if we didn't have to wait a month between episodes and forever before they do something with it again. It looked pretty awesome when they dropped the frame on it but not even starting the engine was pretty lame.

There's a 24 hour race going on at the Czech Brno track, you might be able to watch an English stream here: http://auto.idnes.cz/24hodinovy-zavod-brno-le-mans-dgl-/automoto.aspx?c=A161003_114046_auto_ojetiny_fdv Yesterday I caught the Formula 3 and DTM practice/qualifying at Hockenheimring, in person. DTM is scary fast (and sounds awesome), I didn't expect that but they were like 10 seconds faster per lap than F3. I'll post some photos later.

Best use case would be some sort of emergency range extender, otherwise they're not very efficient at small sizes and would be best used in an electric hybrid operation anyway due to rpm range.

The whole thing of course seems pretty likely to sip more power than a regular DOHC setup or whatever, but the claimed benefits, if they aren't absolute horseshit, should more than offset it. This is by my completely uneducated and unqualified estimate. But 30% more power, 30% less fuel consumption and 50% lower emissions is an enormous improvement. Plus I'm thinking maybe they could use the extra boost that would've been vented to drive this thing somehow. E: actually they claimed the system uses 10% less energy to run this valvetrain: http://www.autoevolution.com/news/freevalve-engine-what-is-it-and-how-will-it-change-the-car-industry-113057.html

Yeah. And realistically, until this thing is in a running production vehicle, all this stuff is "who the gently caress knows". They could come up with all sorts of numbers that may be absolutely true, but only be applicable to their current development stage and testing environment. Just like we've been reading about everyone making a 50% improvement in battery density or solar panel efficiency, but by the time the tech hits production, it's a modest improvement over what's already on the market at best.
