Well I managed to get to a Gamestop that had a WiiU kiosk, and it had Rayman Legends as its demo. It was pretty fun, the included Murphy level less so. I can safely say that the music levels are the replacements for the Tricky Treasure levels, cause they play out in almost the same way. The gamepad was kind of awkward to handle. The thing is pretty wide, so it took some getting used to. The pad felt kind of heavy, but that's mainly because it was attached to a pretty thick tether. The rest of it felt pretty light, about as light as a PS3 controller, I'd estimate.

Not to mention that at E3, several people were confused if the WiiU was an add-on to the Wii, or a new console. Looks like they're trying not to repeat that mistake.

Vaerai Archon posted:If Nintendo wants to make it's online service take off they only need to do one thing. Unfortunately, part of the appeal of Pokemon is being able to play it on the go, at any time, so I doubt they'll make a mainline console title. Where do you even find the time to play all those games?

Liam Acerbus posted:Wouldn't it be pretty difficult to get NSMB actually playable online? Playable, not just online. Not really. Their games had pretty good online, like Mario Kart for instance. It's their stance on online play that's prevented Mario platformers from having online. Rake Arms posted:Mario Galaxy 1&2 perfected the collectathon platformer, in my opinion. You can pretty handily keep track of what's left for you to get. What about them were collectathons again? The purple coins levels, yes, but if you're talking about the Power Stars, they're more like level goals rather than actual objects to collect.

PaletteSwappedNinja posted:I guess this hasn't been posted? IGN writeup on NSMBU that mentions a whole bunch of crap people were hoping for - SMW-style overworld, the different challenges/alternates modes, the ability to create your own Coin Challenge layouts, lots of stuff. Okay, this caught my attention before, but count me legitimately interested now. Really seems like this game is a lot more inspired than NSMB2, which kind of reeked of

And I just noticed that the enemies still dance to the BAHs in U. At least in Boost mode, they seem to have taken that away.PaletteSwappedNinja posted:You could probably attribute the difference in quality between the handheld NSMB games and the console games to Miyamoto's involvement - he had nothing to do with the original beyond the multiplayer mode, was very hands-on with the Wii game, had almost nothing to do with NSMB2 and is supposedly taking the lead on the Wii U game. Well that's interesting. That might be a reason for me to look forward to this. Araxxor fucked around with this message at 03:07 on Oct 31, 2012 |

Here's another Rayman Legends preview. Man, this game looks awesome! I just hope they're doing something about the single player Murfy sections in the game. It might be fun playing as him with other people, but it was so boring having to escort an AI around.

According to an interview I read, they only take up 20% of the game, and are purely optional.

Well from what it seems like, they already tweaked them. Originally they took up 50% of the game! And it didn't sound like they were optional back then.

Oh yeah, the item balance was really good in 7. You actually had to work your way up to first place, instead of it being handed to you on a silver platter if you're lagging behind. (Wii was absolutely horrendous about this.) The first place player still needs better defensive options, but it's a lot better than what was in previous games. And Blue Shells are actually useful this time around, instead of simply being a middle finger to the player in first. That said, the single player AI is still pretty vicious and loves to trample all over you even if you make a small mistake, or have the tiniest bit of bad luck in a race. Really hope they improve on this in the inevitable Mario Kart U. ^I think the main issue with Wii was that it had 12 racers instead of 8, which threw the item balance completely out of whack.

Morpheus posted:Yup! Now, instead of having your purchases locked to a system, you have them locked to an account. But oh wait! The account is locked to a system! That's gotta be one of the stupidest things I've heard them do. What was going through their heads when they came up with this? But I guess I shouldn't been expecting anything else from those guys. And I actually got a little excited about getting a WiiU too. I really hope they fix this in the future.

Brother Scrotum posted:What's the verdict so far? Worth it yet? You might want to hold off on getting the system. A lot of people are reporting a ton of problems with the system and the games on it. Wait till they (hopefully) ironed out the kinks, and there's more worthwhile, not buggy games, to buy.

You really shouldn't be using the Slingshot. That and the Yo-yo have accuracy penalties, so you'll miss more often if you're using those instead of Ness' other weapons.

Minidust posted:Doesn't VVVVVV just not give your character any momentum at all? That's not so much "tighter" control as it is different. Yeah. It also means that Captain Viridian kind of skids to a stop instead of stopping completely when you let go of the button. Which often leads to his death if you stopped moving near a hazard. I'm not sure if I would call that good controls.

The first game was a bit slower, both level wise and all the other stuff. The level design is a lot tighter in 2, and the game is much faster paced. As for the overworld stuff, an empty star means you didn't get that star yet. An empty star with a question mark means that there's a secret star in the level. A crown means you got all the possible stars for that level. The yellow squares with the stars means you need that many stars in order to get past that point, and open up more levels. The numbers with the star bits means you need that many star bits in order to open up a level. You can't 100% the game until you beat the final boss first, because more levels open up after that.

whaley posted:I gotta say, "A Hat in Time" looks really bad. No idea why anyone cares about it, and I played the hell out of collectathon games when I was younger. Looks horribly sloppy and outdated. If the Kickstarter didn't say BANJO KAZOOIE every other word I can't imagine anyone caring. It also has the problem of the lead designer having a pretty bad track record involving drama and plagiarism. He also is pretty bad at not keeping what he promised with a ton of things, so there's a chance that A Hat in Time could completely fall apart and not come out. If anyone's actually looking forward to that game, you should probably lower your hopes a bit.

Yeah, don't over explain stuff, that was a huge problem with the Steam thread OP (it explained how to start up a game for some reason.) Note down some important stuff and try to keep it concise and simple.
