Did Michael Savage do something stupid recently (well, stupid enough to get pulled)? My local talk station has had him on for well over a decade, and he's been quietly replaced with some other rear end in a top hat.

I think of all these personalities, he is one of the more deranged.

I want to note that, right after Newtown, Savage called for outright censorship of movies and videogames. No, I don't mean euphemisms or the squirrely talk you normally get out of these types: Savage specifically called for the censorship of media.

Not really. No.
I believe Savage was number two or so in the talk radio. Obviously a good ways behind King Rush, but still one of the bigger names out there. When Fox News ushered in names like O'Reilly, Hannity, and Beck, Savage took a heavy tumble. He's incredibly bitter about it, and loves taking an opportunity to rail against any one of them using affectionate nicknames like "Leprechaun" for O'Reilly.

It is really funny that they complain about the media not reporting black-on-black crime because they whine the loudest when someone calls out the media on nonstop reporting of missing white college women.

Has anyone ever...timed these talk shows to see how much is actual content? (well, "content" but you get the idea)

I turned on Hannity at 5:47. He goes to commercial at 5:48, and comes back at 5:54. This is already six minutes of commercials, but Hannity just does a live ad about some online tax crap. So the show is technically STILL in a commercial break. At 5:56, Hannity finishes, only to quickly pitch his Fox News show for the night and then end the show. It's still 5:56. Over TEN MINUTES of his show is purely ads, be it for sponsors or shilling his own poo poo. You get maybe 25-30 minutes of content per hour. It's not much, even compared to TV and its slowly encroaching ads.

Yeah, it's no secret that the point of these programs is to sell poo poo to people that are either old, scared, or both. I recall a few years back when a caller commented to Rush on how different he sounded on the air than in person. Rush said that was because the program is delayed so it can be slight sped up. The math works: if Rush's program is 30-40 minutes long each hour, speeding him up by 1% would be just enough time to squeeze another 15-30 second ad. They're complete shills.

It'd be funny if it wasn't about flirting with yet another war.

I don't think a lot of people expecting Obama to start a new conflict, and most certainly not the GOP. They have absolutely no idea how to swing this, because calling Obama a coward backfires if ends up going to war, but giving Obama poo poo over going to war would be hypocritical. I guess their saving grace is that we're far enough from the last two wars that they can start revising history.

Hannity was talking to Coulter and she said we can't trust the polls on the GOP because they only polled adults. I...don't exactly understand what she means by this. Are the elderly not adults anymore, or are minors suddenly a major voting block? Maybe I missed something in there.

Oh, and within five minutes of that she treated Obama's poll numbers as absolute truth :v:

No, because having more people get it, even healthy people, helps protect people who cannot get it because they have compromised immune systems. In first-world countries, the main reason to get vaccinated is to protect those who cannot get it and because influenza loving sucks even if it's not necessarily lethal.

Also, I cannot believe homeopathy is still a thing. I pretty much knew I could brush off the rest of what Savage said as bullshit once he endorsed loving homeopathy.

Hannity could quit working right now and live a happy life, raise a few kids, live wherever he wants, marry whoever he wants (or not get married) and never have to do gently caress all for the rest of his life, but He Dropped a Slot! So there must be communism and fascism and poo poo or something because now he's "Number FOUR!"

I remember a long time ago someone posted something on a board I've long since abandoned and which had nothing at all to do with politics. I think it was a Prince website, believe it or not. But she wrote that people gauge their happiness and satisfaction not on what makes them happy but around what makes them happier than other people. Something like that. She was right.

It's not enough to have a nice house in a nice neighborhood, a motorcycle, a cool car, enough money to live a comfortable life until your death or whatever. For a lot of people (most of them capitalist conservative Republicans) your life has to be better than everyone else's.

It's a lot like the business card battle in American Psycho where all their cards looked the same but some were on 'bone' and some were on 'ivory'. Some were embossed and some weren't. Some were in this font and others in that font but every card in the pile was the same and all those pricks were already rich enough to do whatever they wanted to do anyway.

poo poo. Sorry for the long post/rant.
There's the oft-posted poll about how people would rather make less money so long as it meant making more than a neighbor. I dunno how legit that is, but it wouldn't surprise me.

There's also the common thing about how money does nothing for happiness after you've reached a point where you can comfortably satisfy all needs and weather any sort of modest problems. I also remember from somewhere about psychiatrists saying that the super-rich have some unhealthy obsession with accumulating more wealth to the point where you could call it a sickness. However, we live in a country that fetishizes wealth accumulation as the End All Goal of the American Dream. Woe to anyone that dared to go on TV and state that there might be something wrong with you if you feel the need to get more money after you already have gotten more than you can possibly spend in your lifetime. Communist!

Yeah, most places have a delay for this reason. However, you can be sure that most radio hosts will use it to drop a caller when things might go sour. It may look bad to outsiders, but regular listeners will eat up Rush or Hannity giving a liberal the boot.

Now, of course, abortion is No Laughing Matter and I doubt he could get away with making that kind of joke with his dour humorless audience.

Junk food is really lovely, but you're at least getting some cheap calories out of the deal. Tobacco just kills you while being a drain on your wallet, and I guess homeopathic pills don't hurt you but it also doesn't provide any calories so it's literally money for nothing. He can't go like five minutes without saying how he's the first to report some made-up bullshit or that his ratings are so amazing and totally beat whatever childish pet name he's invented this week for Rush or Hannity. He has a massive chip on his shoulder about spending his whole radio career in the shadow of Rush. And once Fox News got larger, he started losing listeners to Hannity, Beck, and others as well, which only further wounded his fragile ego. What little I caught of Rush today, he was trying to weave some Democrat Party conspiracy by citing a poll that said married women support the GOP so that the Democrat's secret plan is to keep women from getting married and somehow it tied into immigration reform. It was so insane I actually laughed out loud by myself in my car.

Probably the funniest part of it was the implication that Democrats ever think things through that clearly or are organized and proactive enough to do it in the first place. I'll have to dig up the transcript to describe it but it was some truly 11th dimensional chess poo poo and it reminded me why I first thought that Limbaugh was a parody show for the first two or three years I heard his show.

It was so batshit I can't even recall the logic behind it but I'm sure his listeners just nodded their heads and mumbled in agreement.
I listened to that too, and here is my attempt to explain Rush's :airquote:logic:airquote:

Rush starts by saying that originally marriage was done for financial reason, which is considered a bad thing by feministsNAZIS. The problem is that Rush is (probably intentionally) not understanding that this goes back many centuries to when marriage was basically a contract deal between families. Rush is thinking something entirely different, and don't ask me what.

He continues by saying that women tend to marry up, which is :biotruths:HYPERGAMY:biotruths: crap that again misses the point: women tended to "marry up" because the patriarch of a lower family could use his daughter as a way to increase his social standing by marrying her to someone of higher station. So yeah, it's true but only in the sense that women had absolutely no agency in the matter.

And, according to Rush's source, people are increasingly marrying for financial reasons today because the economy is bad. So feministsNAZIS are now running scared because Obama's economy is bringing back the aspects of marriage they totally hate, but only if your knowledge of marriage only goes back like 50-70 years. And then he had some stupid conversation with his call screener about homemakers and how feministsFUCKIN' NAZIS hate homemakers.
