He is getting 78k/yr pre-tax, 56k/yr post tax. Figure his first wife is getting a big chuck of that, depending on how long they were married. He actually probably gets more since he joined before 1980.

Not really an idiot example for me, but when my platoon took over QRF at Korean Village we inherited a shipping container from the previous army unit(82nd or 101st I think). In the container was a couple eotechs, a 240 reciever, backpack ECM systems, some NVGs, cyz-10(no key), a 117 and a lot of random non-serialized gear.

A few months ago, a guy in my shop was being put up for airman of the whatever. We both came from a different shop, so the NCOIC of our current shop asked for some bullets from the old shop. Our NCOIC is trying to write it and asks the guy "Hey, can you explain what this bullet is about? I need some more information." Since the guy hadn't done it, he replied with "Uh, I don't know." So the NCOIC asked me. At first I had no idea what it was. It was something like adding memory to servers increasing storage by 300% or something which made absolutely no sense. It had nothing to do with our career field, not to mention that servers don't use "memory" as storage. NCOIC asked the guy who sent (and wrote) that bullet for clarification. It was the guy who barely speaks English and barely speaks Tagalog and he had no idea what it meant either.

I looked at it again and based on the number of "servers" I realized what it was. It was a small project I lead where we increased the storage space of several distro switches with compact flash cards. Not only was the bullet entirely wrong, the original guy had no idea what it was because he didn't even do any of it.

Thank you for your servers

iyaayas01 posted:

Yup. Assuming you're in a job more than a year or two removed from graduation, no one really talks about college in idle conversation. I can't remember the last time I made mention of "college" or my university in conversation with people at work. Hence Godholio's point...if they make a point of bringing it up right away, they're a tool. If it happens to come up in conversation several months down the road when you're randomly bullshitting about "crazy college stories" or whatever, that's a different story.

Talking about college is just something that people do when they first meet. You know...establish some connection with the person, find topics for conversation, 'oh do you know so and so??', etc.
