I somehow managed to survive the Ticketmaster fiasco that was the Taylor Swift Pre-sale last November. I ended up with two tickets costing me $287. I've spent the last six months anxiously watching the prices skyrocket and continue to increase up until the day of the concert. I almost sold them. I have so many medical bills to pay for. The concert was Saturday night in Chicago. 65,000+ swifties invaded downtown Chicago for the weekend and it was an INCREDIBLE experience. I'm so glad I didn't sell those tickets. The best opening weekend to Pride that I could have possibly hoped for. We arrived in Chicago at around 2pm, managed to check into the hotel right before things got nuts in the hotel lobby. The hotel gave us sour patch kids at checkin, which we were told are Taylor's favorite candy. We went up to our room, unpacked a bit, and came down for lunch and the line to check in snaked around the lobby. There were life sized Taylor standups for selfies around the lobby with people taking pictures and already the vibe was great. Had lunch at a small thai place by the hotel, then headed to Soldier field at around 4pm. Eventually we found the line to the gate we were supposed to enter at. Gates opened at 4:30 pm, and it took us only 30 minutes to get inside and find our seats. Nosebleeds on the opposite corner of the stadium from the stage, which, honestly, turned out to be an amazing view of the show. Would I have liked to be closer? Sure, but it was a great place to see the show none the less. Owenn, one of Taylor Swift's backup singers starting a solo career was the first opener at 6:25pm. Great start to the show, but the energy ramped up once girl in red took the stage next just before 7pm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAWoJe-_EbI She killed it. A great example of an indie artist that's just having fun on stage. Loved her energy and banter during her portion of the show. Then, Taylor Swift came out right about 8pm. The ear piercing scream of 65,000+ fans was completely insane. I knew it was coming, but no preparation could prepare me for the sheer scale of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0sgj9vouis As the night progressed, the energy never faded. There were peaks and valleys, but the lowest valley and highest peaks were still magnitudes above what I've experienced at previous concerts (the previous biggest concert I've been to was Fall Out Boy at Wrigley Field a few years back). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfvGL7jpgQE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nR_OjnZ194w The show lasted until 11:15pm, when a swarm of people slowly flooded out of the stadium. We made it out of the stadium at 12:10am, and then got back to our hotel around 12:30am. One hell of an experience, and one that I hope to be able to replicate at some point in the future... though I doubt anything can come close. It was amazing.

I was apparently in the top 2% of tswift listeners this year. Following her were Fall Out Boy, Offspring, Royal and the Serpent, and Vicetone.

Rageaholic posted:...who's Todd? Todd in the Shadows. He does YouTube pop music commentary. I generally like his commentary, even if I don't always agree with his tastes. This worst and best of the year videos are awesome. My favorites are his Trainwreck videos though.

I'm not sure I'd normally consider girl in red to be "pop" but she's kind of exploded since opening for Taylor Swift during the Eras tour, and her new album is coming out in April. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrnYzWo75OY This song slaps. Love it.

DC Murderverse posted:this album is a huge bummer mood-wise from start to finish I mean to be fair the title of the album is the Tortured Poets Department not the Fun Poets Department. I'm honestly excited by the idea of a bummer album.
