I am cautiously optimistic that the reasin DokiDoki has been so poor compared to Smile is because Toei is more focused on making the return of Sailor Moon as amazing as it can be.

I don't understand the classification of Momoclo as anti-idol, though. My friend is a big fan of them and to me they seem like a pretty standard idol group, just with a sentai/ magical girl gimmick to their act.

Where does he even get off calling her slutty? She doesn't dress povacatively or flirt with guys constantly. Not that either of those are particularly negative things, I'm just trying to get a frame of reference outside of "shes a girl" which automatically makes her a slut.

Venus' Love Chain never made much sense. The other girls all had elemental powers, but Venus was just 'Love'? That's not an element!

HeartCatch, Suite and Smile are all great. Dokidoki (the current series) has been a little rocky overall, but isn't terrible. This past episode with Rosette's father was one of the best.

I will never understand the love for Heartcatch Precure, but I'd definitely recommend Smile, Suite, and Splash Star if you want some Sailor Moon-esque shows in the Precure lineup. Precure's an odd one, because it was originally meant to be a magical girl equivalent of DBZ, but after Precure 5 it started becoming really traditional magical girl style.

I always thought PreCure was Toei riding on the coattails of the massively successful Sailormoon and eventually following the proven formula of tokusatsu in airing each new season as a completely new show that shares similar elements that could conceivably be run in-perpetuity. Also, an IP that they owned exclusively to sell licensed merchandise marketed towards girls.

Even though there's that image about Futari wa also being marketed towards older/otaku guys, it doesn't really feel that way especially as the seasons progress.

I wasn't trying to say it was the first or only magical girl show! Just that Sailormoon had 200 episodes(!) and that PreCure was the next big thing.

Out of curiosity, why does the English speaking fnadom call it Precure? "Pretty Cure" is freaking 2 letters longer, it doesn't make sense.

Edit: Although, come to think of it, it's only like 3 characters longer in Japanese

Because that's what the title says! :eng101:

EDIT: Whoops, thought you were asking the opposite!

I don't see why at least we don't get a thread each season like any other anime. Unless Zorak doesn't want it for some reason. He seems down in general on precure in the season threads.

Half the sections are greyed out and in two rows, three of two portraits are missing underneath. It doesn't look incomplete, it looks half-loaded! I assume the missing portraits are due to the other volumes of the new collections not being released yet.

The thing that bothered me about the trailer, or rather the footage chosen for the trailer, is that Usagi's face was so inexpressive. She's Usagi. She emotes. It seemed as if the animators were so concerned with making her look pretty that they didn't really let her do anything except hang her mouth open to express varying degrees of surprise and shock.

Thanks for this post. I was trying to figure out what felt so off to me and I was starting to think maybe it was the older/taller looking designs. But no, you're right, it's the lack of expressiveness.

Looking at the production credits, we're not even dealing with the usual Precure animation team. Only the director and the person in charge of series composition have much Precure experience. On the animation side, one of the art directors has a single Precure credit... for DokiDoki. I wish we had the animation staff from Heartcatch, or even Smile. They pulled off some good faces.

Out of curiosity then, where did the Precure animation team go? They don't seem to be animating PreCure anymore and I had figured that was because they were working on this.

Blah, Toei couldn't throw some of their Pretty Cure money Sailor Moon's way?

(Reigniting the previous page's controversy, Sailor Jupiter is totally the best.)

Toei hasn't had money for precure for at least the last two seasons. Or animators or whatever. There was some speculation that Sailor Moon was the reason, but obviously that doesn't seem to be the case. Happiness Charge has had some really terribly animated episodes, but overall it's a good, fun show.
