Well if anyone is super interested in buying a blackberry you can use the coupon code SAVE100BB148 in the shop blackberry store to get 100 bucks off so the Z10 drops to $200.00, Q5 to $250.00 and the Q10 to $300.

Is it worth it? Probably not but in the grand scheme of things 200 isn't that much.

If they paid me $200 i might consider it

look at this poor bastard who actually has to administer this shitshow

CLAM DOWN posted:

So I attempted to upgrade BES from 10.1.2 to 10.2.2 today and it ended up failing after 8 hours of the installers making an unmitigated shitshow of everything.

To get your installer/upgrade to even remotely work, the following must happen:
  • call support to figure out what the BES 10 upgrade path is. As in, you can't go 10.1.* to 10.2.1+, you have to go to 10.2.0 first. This doubles the amount of time this takes. This is not documented anywhere. Especially not in the prereqs, install guide, or download page.
  • if you have ever upgraded Java on your BES server (if you don't you should reconsider your stance on security), you have to re-install static installs of the JRE that your version of BES originally shipped with, because the installers point to a static path of specific versions. This is not documented anywhere.
  • if you have replaced self-signed certs in your as/ncc.web.keystore (if you haven't you should reconsider your stance on security), you have to use the genWebKey.bat utility along with the encryption key pulled manually from the DB to reset your keystore. This is not documented anywhere.
  • allow 2+ hours per installer to allow updates of the SQL tables. 95% of this 2+ hour time is spent doing absolutely nothing but repeatedly updating the installer progress bar at its current position. This is not documented anywhere.
  • if you have an HA pair, sacrifice a goat and pray to satan because there is no way in hell you're emerging from this unscathed. Make sure you stop all services on both nodes because sometimes your nodes decide to play a game and change roles on you, completely loving up your cluster.

After all this, you will still get completely a unknown "Failed validation, Result: 10" error that 3 tiers of support cannot figure out, and you will have to restore to your snapshots you better have loving taken before starting, thus wasting your entire day.

Sorry for the rant but Blackberry can rot in hell. Too bad, because the Z30 is a nice piece of hardware.

Yo reading Losing the Signal as recommended up thread somewhere and it's p good.

Like on one hand you have to admire how they managed to get the marketshare that they did.

But on the other hand you have to laugh as you see the very same hubris the big players showed that they took advantage of when getting big being their own downfall.
