A bunch of new stock for the farmette:

These two Polish rabbits for my son to do 4H projects

These fancy schmancy birds to breed with our Rhode Island Red rooster (they were babies when we got them)

Rooster for reference

More rabbits for breeding and food. There are four of them but they're all basically identical devil rabbits.

This blue car to replace this red car

These wheels and tires to go on this black car

We bought the car for $800 and we’ve done front brakes/calipers, Racing Beat/Holley intake, electric fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, Racing Beat exhaust, new hatch struts, new wheels and tires, new wiper arms, and some other odds and ends.

I have no idea why, but I've always loved the Wankel engine. Every summer a not so small part of me thinks about buying an RX-7 or RX-8. If I didn't live in Chicago I probably would have by now. It's just only having 3 months a year to really enjoy it isn't enough.

I live in PA so we can’t enjoy it all year long either but I keep buying the drat things. I actually have a crappy shell of an FC sitting around with a streetported TII motor in it as well as some other goodies, waiting for the day where I don’t work 7 days a week and can actually strip it out. Possible future drivetrain for the FB.

It’s a pretty crappy body but a good drivetrain

The first drive we took got this reaction:

And every ride since has been even better. The first ride after the new carb setup, where we could hit 7,000 rpm without stumbles and the motor running out of breath, was a revelation for him.

This is how proud he is of the car

We also recently purchased this and have been working on it during the winter. Mikuni carb, some odds and ends. Hits about 35 just in our driveway

Today we gave him his birthday present:

Haha thanks for all the support, everyone. My parents were cool but not into cars or music so I learned it all on my own. When my older son showed interest in all the things I’m interested in, I knew I had to jump on it and encourage. It’s nice not being completely destitute anymore like we were right before he was born so I am enjoying letting him do the things he loves. He has helped me on a bunch of my project cars, and learned to drive stick when he was 9 because he was so into cars. My wife is also super supportive and encouraging of everything we do, which is a big help.

I'm really pissed they don't make the Forester XT anymore. I want a WRX cause fun to drive, but I also really want something with some carrying capacity. Forester XT is like the good middle ground, but they stopped producing it. I'm half tempted to get a newer Forester, say gently caress the warrant, and drop a turbo in it.

We specifically wanted a manual XT so we had to have the 04-08 date range, which actually works out nicely because instead of an SUV it’s more like a tall wagon. You could get the XT until last year though with a CVT, so you should be able to find a gently used one?

Might have been clickbait but I remember reading something about Subaru claiming that "People are buying the hell out of the NA ones so we aren't gonna bother with another turbo Forester". drat shame too cause there aren't many cars with the fun to practical ratio of an XT. When I was looking for an old school Forester XT with a manual I discovered that they're as rare as unicorn tears. Low mileage ones were unreasonable. I settled on a NA Legacy because I found one in super nice shape with low miles for a decent price. drat thing is painfully slow though.

I wish Subaru would make a small pickup like the Honda Ridgeline though. I just bought a house and I'm running out of favors to call in from my truck owning friends.

I have an 05 FXT in manual and I refuse to get rid of it despite the alarmingly high number of miles it now has. It’s been meticulously maintained and is in excellent condition, despite putting a few go-fast, sound-good bits on it.

I’ve also replaced a fair few regular maintenance items over the past 18 months or so: timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, clutch and flywheel, oil control valves and AVCS cam sensor, disintegrating intercooler and turbo hoses, etc. i replaced the turbo with a brand new OEM Subaru unit I got from a friend for like $50 and also put a catless up-pipe on to prevent the first catalyst from throwing debris into the turbo. The turbo I pulled off the car had 215k miles on it and is in perfect condition, still sitting on my workbench.

It’s a near-perfect combination of fast and practical while still flying under the radar for 99% of the general populace. Despite all the work I’ve done to it recently it’s never been unreliable or left me stranded. I’ve done almost all those repairs proactively.

just watched a vid of this thing pulling on the highway, goddamn, looks like a lotta fun.

For whatever it’s worth, when they were new they were faster than a regular WRX and almost as quick as an STi despite being rated at 17hp less than the WRX and 90hp less than the STi. The Forester has 4.44 final drive which makes it accelerate way harder than a tall wagon has any right to. It’s hilarious fun. The only thing I wish mine had is the beefier STi 6-speed transmission, but overall I like it more than the 05 STi I had a few years ago; better ride quality, less punishing on poor quality roads, and way more utility with the hatch. I had another FXT recently that was actually faster than this one but I sold it because it was automatic, and kept the manual one because I know I’ll never find another one that isn’t trashed for a reasonable sum of money. I don’t drive it that often anymore so it sits in the garage mostly, but every time I take it anywhere I am smiling the entire time.

Do you know if the 1.5l turbo model civics have the rev-hang? I drove a '17 6spd (I think) EX or EX-L 1.5l and did not like something about the gearchange. Either I'm not used to turbo lag or something else. There was a weirdo delay that really bothered me. We ended up buying a Accord CVT instead.

I wish the dealer would have had a Si sedan on the lot because I would have liked to drive one of those.

Yeah all the newer manual Hondas have it . It’s a radio button on the KTuner options screen to turn it off, so of course I did. Also changed my throttle padding and boost response.
