It's the Idiots on Social Media Thread! Previously the Idiots of Facebook Thread, it has now been expanded to include other websites, like Twitter and comments on news websites.quote:Hey, I see these weird screencaps with puns instead of names. What program is that? You're talking about Social Fixer! I prefer to use paint, but it's much faster, especially if you need to block multiple names/faces. NOTE: Do not cause stupid derails! Please feel free to comment on an issue someone posted about, but keep arguing to a minimum. If a debate lasts longer than a few posts, either shut up or bring it to D&D. Post away. Edit: Decided to post some stuff from the creepy anime guy on my feed from last thread. And the best (worst) one of all... trapped mouse has a new favorite as of 01:51 on May 7, 2014 |

Idiots on Social Media: DON'T POST TUMBLR Seriously, there's a reason all the Tumblr mock threads get closed. An occasional screen-cap is fine, but Tumblr SJWs have the power to make goons turn on each other in a wild frenzy. Shut up about Tumblr SJWs. Green actually isn't me, just another decent human being. Silver lining, I guess.

Socially awkward people idealize the past, because rather than seeing the entire picture, they only see the stuff in popular culture and media. So rather than focus on the general horribleness of living in, say, the 18th Century, they pick up certain things like pipes and vests, and use archaic language in order to appear unique. It's a substitute for an actual personality, because social interaction is much easier when they have a set of phrases, such as "m'lady" and movie quotations, rather than the pressure of voicing original thoughts. The fedora is so widespread because it represents a suave 50s style that is old fashioned but also "classy". That's just my theory at least. I bought a fedora in highschool and wore it a couple times, before realizing how ridiculous it looks. There's still a picture of me wearing it on the internet though, so I guess I won't be running for public office.

This one is absolutely incredible. A. I'm pretty sure "Teabagger" and "Birther" are self-assigned labels. B. The part at the end makes it seem like they agree that they're a racist, a terrorist, anti-american and a greedy capitalist. Wait...reading it again, that seems like the only possible interpretation.

This is extraordinarily lovely and hateful. Hopefully a palette cleanser: This woman is in college. Not a freshman, either. She's completely obsessed with disney/animated movies, when she saw Wreck-It-Ralph it was literally the only thing she would talk about if you encountered her. Also, yes, she liked her own status.

So I've been seeing this image everywhere, and it's started popping up on my Facebook. It bothers me because the lesson is all wrong. The only reason that the kids squeezed out all the shaving cream or whatever is because the teacher told them to. They assumed that the teacher knew what she was doing, and had a plan for what came afterwards. The true lesson is in the absolute trust of authority, blindly making actions because if someone higher up made the decision for you, then you aren't held accountable. It's basically the Milgram experiment on a much smaller scale. It doesn't even make that much sense as a metaphor considering you could probably actually get the stuff back in the container if you really wanted to. There's a way better metaphor in the movie Doubt about it: Doubt posted:A woman was gossiping with her friend about a man whom they hardly knew - I know none of you have ever done this. That night, she had a dream: a great hand appeared over her and pointed down on her. She was immediately seized with an overwhelming sense of guilt. The next day she went to confession. She got the old parish priest, Father O' Rourke, and she told him the whole thing. 'Is gossiping a sin?' she asked the old man. 'Was that God All Mighty's hand pointing down at me? Should I ask for your absolution? Father, have I done something wrong?' 'Yes,' Father O' Rourke answered her. 'Yes, you ignorant, badly-brought-up female. You have blamed false witness on your neighbor. You played fast and loose with his reputation, and you should be heartily ashamed.' So, the woman said she was sorry, and asked for forgiveness. 'Not so fast,' says O' Rourke. 'I want you to go home, take a pillow upon your roof, cut it open with a knife, and return here to me.' So, the woman went home: took a pillow off her bed, a knife from the drawer, went up the fire escape to her roof, and stabbed the pillow. Then she went back to the old parish priest as instructed. 'Did you gut the pillow with a knife?' he says. 'Yes, Father.' 'And what were the results?' 'Feathers,' she said. 'Feathers?' he repeated. 'Feathers; everywhere, Father.' 'Now I want you to go back and gather up every last feather that flew out onto the wind,' 'Well,' she said, 'it can't be done. I don't know where they went. The wind took them all over.' 'And that,' said Father O' Rourke, 'is gossip!'
