The other, simpler possibility is that Cowl didn't want to secure the Lied for himself as much as he wanted to keep it out of the hands of his rivals. Even if he already had it (or didn't need it), locking down the other copies in Chicago could have delayed the other Kemmlerites (and Harry) enough so they couldn't stop him.

This is the case, Kumori even tells him he doesn't need to hand it over just destroy it & they would be happy. Happens outside of Bock's Books.

Since we're talking Urban Fantasy here, are there any books that are less like noir crossed with fantasy and more :twentyfour: meets fantasy? Butcher's comment about not setting Dresden in DC to avoid doing politics made me wonder if anyone's tried anything more up that alley.

You could try The President's Vampire series by Chris Farnsworth. It's based out of DC but there isn't a great deal of politics in the book. I had fun reading the series though.

Did you miss the scene where in Fool Moon where the 3 werewolves are loving each other while eating a human they killed or the scene in Grave Peril were Dresden ties up a blood lust filled half turned red vampire so he can gently caress the lust out of her so she doesn't kill him and turn? This series has enough hosed up "Adult" content for you to enjoy I don't think they need more.

After reading The Faust series, where one of the main characters is a non sexualized, not involved in sex work succubus, reading about the White Court is just painful.

I just started reading the Faust series & I was getting a bit worried so its good to see this post. The first story is about a porn director who is trying to find a snuff film & one of his actresses dies under mysteries circumstances. Also there is a succubus who is magically bound & used as a sex slave. I assume she is set free & works with him moving forward based on your comments here. Despite all this none of it was described in a creepy way & nothing happens on screen.

I almost put the book down when I realized the main character was a magician working out of Las Vegas who uses playing cards when doing some of his magic. It seemed so cliche I had little hope for the rest of the book. I felt that was a poor reason to put a book down so I kept reading.

Despite all this I am really glad I kept reading, the book has been a lot of fun & has a good amount of humor in it. I like the fact that he isn't entirely good & doesn't have a problem with killing or ruining the lives of people who deserve it.

As a side note it actually seems like he introduced these seedy elements to draw in the fan base of books like the Anita Blake series.

If I remember correctly they consulted him on aspects of existing characters they were adding to the RPG to make sure it met his approval.

the "Nightside" series by Simon R. Green. I don't think they're as good as Dresden or Peter Grant, but I don't think they're terrible books either.

The Nightside is the best bad series I have ever read, I own every one that has come out & do not regret it. heavy Noir feeling to them but the protagonist's power is so overpowered that he should be able to resolve every case in the first 20 pages but doesn't.

Don't go into them expecting the greatest series but if you have read the sandman slim books & enjoyed them than you might like The Nightside series. One of the biggest complaints is that he reintroduces characters every time they appear in a new book, they are even reintroduced within the same book sometimes. If you end of liking the series you should also check out his other book series Secret Histories, essentially secret agent wizards protect the world from the super natural world & also keep everyone from knowing it.

What are your thoughts on his grimnoir chronicles series? I really liked the books, and the mechanics of the magic system remind me of Brandon Sanderson's work.

Is it really power creep though? It's been a little while since I read them but I can't recall him getting more powerful or new powers as the books go on, he was that bad rear end from the start.

He literally becomes Lucifer and gains all that power, quits the job, splits into two separate entities, gains the ability to manifest an Angelic gladius, rejoins into a single entity again, and every time he takes a beating he comes back stronger for it.

If that isn't power creep from simply being a guy that survived in Hell by learning blood magic and gaining the ability to escape by collecting a couple artifacts I don't know what is.

He didn't gain any powers when he became lucifer though only responsibilities, unless I am forgetting something. As for the gladius, there you are right, that thing did pump up his power level quit a bit. But he does lose that when his angel half split from him. What book did he first discover he could do that?

He being half angel is also what let him survive hell, every time something would have killed him it just made him immune to it in the future so he left hell in the first book as bad rear end since he was getting nearly killed every day for 10 years straight

Is that cat person in the bottom right just their take on the talking cats in the cinder spires series or are there actual cat humans in the book?

There are super magic computers in the dresdenverse. Donar Vadderung has one & Harry asked if he wanted to turn it off before he got any closer so it wouldnt fry. Donar just laughed at him.

Whats everyone's favorite reference in the Dresden files? Im surprised there hasn't been any "Murphy's Law" references given Murphy being a huge character.

He has, he was speaking with butters in dead beat about how wizards give off a murphionic effect and butters told him to never let Murphy hear him say that.
