I've heard some really good things about The Forest. It's in Early Access on Steam now but apparently it's already very promising:

Yeah, super promising.

Did you guys not play Downpour? It definitely had its share of flaws (enemies being boring and variety being super minimal) but I thought the rest of the game was really well done.

Downpour was great for the sole revelation that you were playing the Eddie to another character's James. It has a bunch of problems too--slow to start, the enemy variety was pitifully tiny, and it could be a bit hard to find your way around in the town sometimes, but thematically I super loved it.

Because Konami is and has been run by morons for years now.

I tried to play it but it demanded that I unplug the controller from the PC before the game will even start. The dev says that he's fixing a controller-related crash and it will get better soon, but what was he thinking putting it up for sale in this state? Is there even anyone left playing PC games in the year 2015 who doesn't have a game pad plugged in?

There are a surprising number of people who believe controllers have no use on a PC and will pitch a fit if someone tells them a controller is a much better option for a given game

So in short, yes :v:

This PT thing seems kinda poo poo honestly and if I'd be real mad if it was any indication of what the next game would be like. I've read it's possible to beat it without a mic I tried the various methods for about a half hour before giving up. Puzzles were too nebulous - The 1st baby laugh triggered for me once on one attempt (after midnight, photos pieced together) then wouldn't again. It's a load off my mind to not feel like I'm missing much by SH being trashcanned. I liked this bit though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpRLoyHQHyM

Trying to play it by trying to force individual flags seems like the opposite way you're supposed to play PT

you can basically get a combat-less SH2 experience by setting the action to beginner and ignoring every enemy, and even bosses take like three shots each and the game is still really fun that way imo

honestly we should be praising sh2 for decoupling its action difficulty and puzzle difficulty and i don't know why every other game ever doesn't do that

Something about being thrust directly into danger or finding out that your safe space is no longer safe (or perhaps was never safe to begin with) is great.

On the other hand, Silent Hill 4 was garbage.

I can't blame Blockhouse for not reading that one. Bunch of technophobe drivel. Just because Stephen King made something doesn't make it good.

No one said it's good (it isn't) but that spoiler is literally the plot of Cell

Speaking of Slay the Princess, I shall claim the minimum playtime achievement, thank you very much. I managed to get the true ending in just under 4 hours. That was about 5 or so vessels? It's short, yes, but not 45 minutes short. Kinda funny and a little weird how I somehow managed to make the exact choices that get me to the credits on my first run.

There's clearly a lot I didn't see in this game - how compelling is the rest of it? Should I do more runs or something?

it's really not that long to 100%. some of the paths are definitely more interesting than others but I still had a great time with it overall
