Silent Hill 4 was a great trailer and I was so hyped for that game. :(

How is SH 4 overrated? The only game in the series less liked is Homecoming.

Or Origins I guess, if anyone remembers that exists.

The second half of the game being an escort mission and it going to a Resi style limited inventory killed it for me, I could have coped with the unkillable ghosts and backtracking otherwise.

It's absolutely not scary in the slightest, it's mostly the story game equivalent of an indie SF movie, though it slips into thriller territory towards the end and there's some surreal dream sequence stuff occasionally too. I would never say it was a horror game at all tbh

Oh god yeah, it was the first 'big' downloadable only title so instead of putting up all 12 GB in one go they decided to break it into like six blocks you have to download separately.

Try playing the original Forbidden Siren some time, now there's an experience :unsmigghh:

I'm pretty sure some of them were necessary just for carrying on, I remember getting completely stuck at one point because I had to do one of the alternate scenarios just to continue the game.
It was a while ago though.

As long as it doesn't have an on rails sequence where you're shooting frog/fish things from the back of a truck I'll play it.

Bloodborne still best Cthuhu game though.

I'm sure there's an alternate control mode that plays like a normal FPS but it's been a while since I touched the first game.

Making a US PSN account and buying digital $ cards from Amazon is pretty easy if you're that bothered.

The Thing game is bad and all the paranoia and 'maybe one of you is the alien!!!!' poo poo is 100% scripted to the point where you can have a negative test on someone then have them turn out to be a monster at the next 'this is when someone turns out to be a monster' bit.
Oh and your companies have literally the dumbest AI I have ever encountered in a game.

I guess it's better than Homecoming also the main bad guy looks exactly like John Carpenter

Eh, I dunno if it picks up exactly, it eventually turns into a more straightforward action horror thing, but that's where I always felt it went downhill, I much preferred the earlier Cronnenberg bodyhorror type stuff.

The best part of that was you can shoot her in the head after getting bitten in case she 'turned', then find out almost immediately after that bites don't effect people like that.

Finished Oxenfree, it was fun but the ending was pretty abrupt, not sure how much I missed or how much you can actually effect the story. I think I got the 'best' ending though everyone survived and I didn't give the ghosts Clarissa, still stuck in a time loop however.

So I just recently got an early model PS3 that can play PS2 games, and I haven't owned a PlayStation since the original PS1 was new, and I'm getting caught up on 3 generations' worth of back catalog.

Are there any PS1/2/3 horror games I should keep an eye out for? I'm talking console exclusives, or games where the "best version" came out on PS1, 2, or 3.

You could try the the first two Siren games and Rule of Rose, they're not good exactly, in fact RoR and Siren 1 are pretty unfun to play, but they are dripping with atmosphere and do some unique things if you can get past that. Siren 2 is actually pretty good, though old school, it never got released in the US but there's an English translated EU release. There's also Haunting Ground, a Clock Tower spin off that's much better than the awful CT3.

Some of those are super pricey to get from eBay now though.

Sakurazuka

The EU version is even rarer since it was 'banned' and only got a release in France and Italy (I think, my copy is Italian) and goes for pretty crazy money on eBay.

Sakurazuka

The first two Siren games had this weird non-linear structure which I liked and was sadly missing from Blood Curse. Each scenario had like an alternate way of solving it that would effect the timeline and change later ones and you could kind of jump backwards and forwards at will.

I don't remember any missions in Siren 2 being that bad (although there's one amusing one where you have to take out a sniper moribito using the sniper character by sneaking into the building he's on and attacking him up close from behind :v: ), but man if you think those are bad look at some vids (or play) the first one, it gives you next to no guidance at all.
