I'll be honest, I wasn't sold on the voice acting at first. It's a big deal for Gabriel Knight; even without playing any of the originals myself I was aware that the cast was remarkable. Whereas OG Gabriel was voiced by Tim Curry, remake Gabriel is someone I've never heard of, who effects a ridiculously thick Louisiana accent for every line. But it wasn't long before he and the rest of the cast grew on me, assisted by the excellent script. Grace gets some vicious burns on Gabe throughout the game, Mosely pals around like a dopey high-schooler, and even some of the minor characters like Hartridge get incredibly memorable lines.

The original Mosley was voiced by Mark Hamill, also Michael Dorn as Dr John.

It's a shame that they recast, really.

That does pretty much describe all of David Cage's games, down to the abundance of quick time events. (Except David Cage isn't being ironic about the cheesy writing)

It's even remarked in one that they especially enjoy the latter when it's someone like a toreador or ventrue. :allears:

The dumb thing is that the end of the sewer section you get to the Nosferatu warrens which is infinitely more detailed and unique. All they needed to do was make it bigger in the same style.

While it is edgy as gently caress, it really does get the blood pumping in it's chases, which if you're looking for that kinda thing it does do well.

But yeah, so loving edgy. Much like Agony, which has been discussed above, it's trying so hard to be shocking an edgy that it just comes across as quaint and mundane because of oversaturation.

Not really, I mean inside the game itself. In Agony's case, when every room is made up of flesh and blood and everything is some kinda of deformed teethvagina demon, it all blends together and becomes quite mundane and same-y.

There's no subtlety and with nothing to contrast the gore and repulsive stuff against, it just ends up feeling less shocking than they're going for.

I've missed 1 rune and I'm nearing the end of having all of them (Maybe 8-10 remaining runes in total). I'd already completed the game. But you're right that the runes persist, so I've now got the achievement unlocked at least. Will just take a look at youtube for what I missed.

Edit: Ok, so even having 1 runestone missing I still got that secret cutscene where Druth talks to you in the portal, and takes off his hat and stuff, before you step through.

Edit: spoilers for what’s in the pax demo
https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/8ol1rw/comment/e0740ef?st=JI3HADTE&sh=54870b0b

quote:

I played this game at Pax East. Unsure where I was in the demo, but it controls exactly like resident evil 2, similar UI and similar way of looking at points of interest. When a point of interest is nearby, there's sort of bracket crosshairs that zoom in on it. When you look at a point of interest, sometimes its in a first person view like with a puzzle, pushing levers or something. In the demo, I made my way out of a crashed ship. The crew was dead, I played as the girl in the trailer who is an android of some type. After making my way out of the ship I wandered a few screens and there was a cave, so I crawled down into it and inside it had a radio, a desk, a bookshelf, like some sort of secret base or something but with a old timey vibe to it. On the desk was the book "The King in Yellow". I took the book, and then the screen started freaking out (I guess I read the book?) and there was a lot of flickering with words scrawled across the screen. Then, there seemed to be a lot of programming errors and the "system" shut down.

After a few seconds, it rebooted. Basically it looked like you were looking through the eyes of the android person and they suffered a fatal system error and restart. When the character woke back up, was in a different area underground, and things that I read would show their text but after a couple of seconds some of the letters would move almost imperceptibly to the point that the some of the words may have changed, I'm not sure. One of those "out of the corner of your eyes" type of things. From what I could gather walking around the underground bunker, it looked like it was a mining operation, but they discovered something else was deep underground that had been there a long time. They weren't sure. Shortly after, some of the crew started being more aggressive, and there were a lot more arguments. One person was caught stealing, so they put them in the holding cell. Things started to break down, but I don't know anything else about it. I found a few puzzles, and was working on finding a set of key cards to open the next cell block. There were several lovecraftian poem references that I can't recall off the top of my head, but as someone familiar with that sort of thing, nothing that I could recognize offhand.

Game looked pretty cool, I'm a fan of RE2 so yeah. Looks promising.

The game does flat out tell you that there's sexual violence in the game, which is supposed to be a roguelite dungeoncrawler. So I was expecting something.

As far as the stuff I've seen in what I've played so far, it's the stuff like:

  • Generally the corpses everywhere
  • Tons of hanged naked fellas
  • Prison guard's big ol johnsons, sorry, "stingers"
  • The ability to saw off your own limbs
  • The ability to kill yourself after sawing off your limbs
  • You can jerk yourself off at a shrine thing, which I assume is where they're talking about the child thing
  • You can dive down a toilet hole and get stuck in a pit of poo poo with no way out
  • A lot of dingdongs basically
  • Occasionally if you die you end up in the blood pit, crawling with no legs

Like, with what I've seen so far, it's pretty edgy but not massively so, at least in a "let's just be dumb and offensive as possible" type way, but if there is stuff like what posters before said, then urgh.
