So I've read that X-Wings are crap. I'm brand new to the game (and minis in general) so is there any reason FFG can't just like, release a pack of cards that has some fix cards, or like, a set of pilot update cards?

X-Wings are the coolest and it's sad that they have a bad rap now :(

Man.

Why don't they just release an Assault Gunboat already. That and the Missile Boat are like, my favorite ships ever.

Honestly, I really just want everything from the sims. Stormtrooper Transport, Escort Shuttle, Assault Transport, etc.

Lol good luck getting those at less than $100 each.

Not even close, there's tons of EBay Buy it Now's for ~$50.

Still a lot for a DVD, and frankly the quality is mediocre, since it's an unscaled straight-up rip. Watched mine a couple weekends ago and ended up just downloading Harmy's so I could have a really nice copy. They're fun to have for sure, but the quality of the original cut in that set isn't stellar.

Can I use a brown "scum" Z-95 dial with a Rebel Z-95? This is actually relevant to my collection of little ships ATM.

I don't think you can distinguish the two? I'm pretty sure they're the exact same. The pilots are different but the maneuver dials are the same thing. For the TIE/ln and the FIE/fo, the ships and dials are different.

So this is probably a dumb loving idea, but apparently one of my local stores is having a tournament on the 23rd. I got the core set for Christmas and bought a bunch more stuff. I've played some "learn how to play the game" games with my family but really I don't know much about it. I'm thinking of entering just to have some fun with plastic spaceships. I fully expect to get trashed so I'm not really worried about putting together a pro list or anything.

Anyway, given that I have a theoretical familiarity with the rules (I poured over the manuals for fun because I am a nerd) and a bunch of plastic starships, is it insane to want to play my first "real" game in a tournament? Will I just gum up the works?

From reading the thread, I think I have enough sets to actually have a fun list, even if it's not perfect (and again, I have no expectations whatsoever of victory). I bought a bunch of ships mostly because Star Wars models are cool and fun, and I'm trying to find people to play with so that I can justify more plastic. Here's what I have:

- OT Core Set
- TFA Core Set
- X-Wing, Y-Wing, A-Wing, B-Wing individual boxes
- Tie Fighter, Tie Interceptor, Tie Advanced individual boxes
- Rebel Aces
- Imperial Aces
- Millenium Falcon
- Lambda-Class Shuttle

I just think the Empire is cool, so I guess I'd prefer to fly Empire, but I think it's probably wisest to play whatever would be easy for a new player to manage.

Would I need to prepare a Rebel and an Imperial list for the tourney? Is it save to just dive in headfirst or should I really seek some more experience? If you could recommend one ship to get that would really push me into a cool and good list, what would it be (I'm guessing the Star Viper for authothrusters)? I'm tempted to just flat out order a Gozanti anyway because the thing owns bones.

(Also, this is in the Philly area, if there's any Philly goons that play X-Wings)

Where do people go for the private market for this game? Individual ships and all that. EBay seems to have a lot of cards but I don't see any big wholesalers for ships there.

Are you trying to buy the models without buying the blisters?

Yeah. Specifically, I want to get my hands on two of the blue TIEs from the Gozanti, so I have have a full compliment of four.

The B-Wing is an F4U Corsair. Late war, huge engine, massive bomb load, folding wings.

Strobe posted:

The TIE Advanced is roughly on par with an X-wing. I'd say that the T-65 is a P-51A Mustang, T-70 is a P-51D Mustang (primary difference between the A and D was an engine upgrade :eng101:), Y-wing is an SBD Dauntless, B-wing is the P-47 Thunderbolt, the TIE Advanced a FW-190, TIE Fighter a Zero, TIE Bomber an ME Bf 110, and the TIE Interceptor an ME Bf 109.

Come at me nerds. :colbert:

Man, the Dauntless is so loving cool and now it makes me love the Y-Wing even more.

Thanks for the advice on the Facebook Swap & Share. I'll be poking on there a bit too. I kinda have wanted to try my hand at painting, so it would be nice to grab some ships people are looking to dump.

I've got some friends coming over this weekend who have never played, and to be honest I have only dabbled. I'm thinking of getting some lists together that would be fun for people to pick and play. I'm going to grab some of the ones listed here in the thread, but is there a good repository anywhere for fun-to-play lists that would be good for beginners to just drop in and play plastic spaceships?

I think the better news is Thrawn canon? Thrawn owns really hard.

So in 2.0 you'll keep your models but you'll use entirely different wheels/cards etc, right?

It's almost like having two different games using the same plastic starships?

I noticed the Epic ships aren't included. Are they abandoning them going forward? They never really fit with tournament gameplay, and I know people complained about the difficulty of including them in games. On the other hand, they own.

Good to hear. It's understandable if they wanna delay on the epic ships, and honestly they probably just wanna release a single epic pack for all 5 of the ones that are out now.
