So I just got this game today. I didn't really know about the whole grants and such part of how you make money, so I was broke. I somehow strung together a hellish 3rd world type prison where I had roughly 12 prisoners in cells and about 10 to 20 in holding cells. It was overcrowded and covered in filth. There were daily riots, and many killings. There were no janitors and no doctors and only 4 guards on staff to keep the peace. Riot cops were pretty much permanently assigned to my prison along with EMTs. Usually there were unconscious inmates and staff all over the place while the EMTs tried to catch up. For some reason it would calm down just enough to get the prisoners mostly to be only to start up as a fight as soon as the cell doors opened in the morning again. Once I figured out the whole grants thing, I tried to catch back up to being a real prison, but it was already gone too far. It actually got worse in a sick way, with weird situations like doctors healing both an inmate and a riot cop who were locked in a perpetual fight to control the main holding cell. I can't imagine being a guard or an inmate in this hell prison. This game rules. e: are there any limits on riot cops time wise? It seemed like a hell of a bargain to just keep one or two teams of em around constantly beating inmates' heads in. wilderthanmild fucked around with this message at 05:38 on Oct 3, 2014 |

Somehow though, it was still profitable. This game can certainly be very interesting if you don't play in some kind of optimal way, and it feels a lot like dwarf fortress when played like that. My prisons where I don't use grants and use just the default starting money always have hilarious cascades of failure. I have one prison where I tried the "one big holding cell" tactic with forced prisoner intake, left it for a while, and came back to a mostly burned down prison with most of the guards and prisoners dead/wounded after what I assume was a pretty nasty riot. The prison did have a LOT of money at that point though. Also, instead of artifacts, you have superior beds to make. Though sadly nobody is carving that bed with depictions of legendary prisoners killing hordes of guards and fellow inmates during a fire. e: If Dwarf Fortess had a UI like Prison Architect, I would loving die of malnourishment while playing it. wilderthanmild fucked around with this message at 17:43 on Oct 6, 2014 |

It's also an early access game. I don't know much of what they have planned for future updates, but there may be better implemented high security measures later. For what it's worth, this game would be less fun with real safe procedures instead of crazy rear end in a top hat legendary prisoners fist fighting whole crowds of guards and guys tunneling out of the prison with a spoon via their toilet. Stuff like in cell meals, escorts, multiple bunking individual cells, etc are all things I hope they might add later.

The only prison I ever had catch fire was my attempt at a worst case prison. Never stopped the flow of prisoners. Max only. 1 holding cell. 1 canteen with 1 table 2 benches a just enough of a kitchen and serving tables. A tiny little shower for everyone. No common area or yard. Only upgrades were security stuff like armed guards. Eventually caught fire during a riot.

So I started letting "Max" prisoners in and made a special regime and cell block for them. They are loving impossible to deal with. There are two legendary ones in the max solitary that I cannot get out of there because as soon as they get off they fight the guard(s) letting them out and they get put right back in. I want to find a way to silently murder them.

So this weekend I played for the first time since mid October. Wow, the last couple updates have really been a big improvement. The scheduler is difficult to get at first, but once you learn it, it makes guard management really work well. Being able to make sure a group of guards constantly follow my Max and Super Max prisoners around is really nice. Before I had to have a bunch of extra guards so I could constantly have their lunch room, yard, etc constantly covered. It also cuts down the need for cameras as I can ensure that there a guards to cover blind spots as needed. You can really get by with a lot fewer guards now in my opinion. I do have two new issues I am encountering though. First is that certain guard tasks are just getting forgotten, specifically stuff like "escort prisoner to solitary" and "escort prisoner to cell". I have about 5 or 6 free guards at a given time, so I can't imagine it's them being too busy. One guy remained at the drop off point for a couple days before I finally managed to get a guard to pick him up. The other is that guard tazer certification classes aren't doing anything. Every night a bunch of guards go to the class, but even after several nights of this, none of them have their tazers.

I'm moving the sliders around, but the guards end up staying in the specified rooms forever. What are the colored numbers' meaning anyway? I don't know if the deployment scheduler covers patrols and I'd been assuming it does not. The colored numbers are your specific deployments. For instance you might want to have one deployment set for meal times where extra guards are in the canteen, so you set your meal times to deployment 1 and set deployment 1 to have 4 guards in the canteen. They have a sort of walkthrough in the release video for the newest version. I'd suggest giving it a watch if you haven't. wilderthanmild fucked around with this message at 19:07 on Dec 22, 2014 |

I had my first real nasty incident in Max-Sec today. So far I usually just play with the normal/minimum security guys, but my current prison is my first attempt at having all 3 levels including Super-Max and protective custody wings. In one of the 20 cell max-sec cell blocks, I missed a snitch/Ex-law enforcement combo so of course almost as soon as he is in the unit, loving hell breaks loose. During lunch, what seemed like the entire block started attacking him and the 3 guards in the canteen. Unfortunately, the armed guard that is supposed to be patrolling there 24/7 was nowhere to be found. The target and 2 of the 3 guards were killed before an armed guard came in and went all rambo on the room, killing a few. Besides the fun of armed guards shooting things, the mini-riot gave me an excuse to start filling up my Super-max wing with a couple of the poo poo starters. I did confirm that patrols can be assigned on a schedule. I am now having a different problem with all my schedule blocks getting reverted after I do any construction that alters deployment zones.

Absorbs Smaller Goons posted:Yeah if you mess with your zones it will alter the deployment of stationed guards, but not patrol IIRC. The patrols will stay there even if you build a foundation under the patrol line, they'll just have a hard time getting around and it might cut the patrol line in places. Yea, I haven't tested it to be sure, but the patrols did seem to stay properly as I wasn't having to reassign them over and over like the stationed guards. I think the bigger bug was that the zone reset seemed to be pretty absurd. I was having to reassign all my canteen guards after building cell blocks on other sides of the map. On a related note, I assume PA has a bug reporting form somewhere, can someone give me a link so I can share these with them rather than simply blab about them on here?

I knew there was supposed to be false positives but that does make it odd multiple patrols were putting the flag on the same spot. I had this happen in one prison. The spot they kept signalling was well away from any cell block and not near any pipes or on any route that would make sense for prisoners to be tunneling. I tried searching every cell block each time they signaled, and nothing. I was curious if it might be a disconnected piece of tunnel that somehow exists through a glitch.

I am noticing two distinct problems with prisoner behavior. One is that I had guards letting prisoners outside the prison walls, causing escapes. This was because I had a perimeter area with an entrance outside the prison, but not into the prison. I assume they are going to pick up contraband in that area, but when they notice they are outside, they flee. I was really confused the first couple times the guard in the "airlock" opened both loving doors to let a prisoner basically just run away. Second is that prisoners seem to break all rules if they are doing something involving library books. I tried to hold and execution and when I locked down, all the prisoners went to their cells, except the ones holding library books. The book holders just stopped in their tracks and did nothing. I had to manually assign them all to solitary to continue. In a similar manner, I've seen prisoners completely out of bounds and out of regime while they randomly do things like return library books or read. Also, my death row is hilarious. Every cell is it's own little thunderdome every couple hours when the legendary prisoner inside decides it's time to fight the cadre of armed guards protecting the Death Row block.

Might try again with Fail conditions to see if I could get away with it again. I made one of these. Several large holding cells. It worked out okay until I decided to stop controlling the flow of incoming inmates. It slowly devolved into near constant shooting by the armed guards. There was minimum 1 death every day in the shower, canteen, and yard. Eventually there was a really bad riot that left a LOT of guards and prisoners dead. It only got cleared up by me holding off my armed guards for a little bit so I could concentrate them en masse against the mob. It sounded like a warzone with all the shooting, even before the riot.

well, I successfully did it for the first time. Murdered all the guards in a prison and basically walked out. Granted, it was my terrible first prison where you could pretty much just grab a drill, screwdriver, or hacksaw anywhere because I had "closets" all around. Second successful escape went hilariously well. Did a little grind to get 2 guys to near max reputations. Started a fight with the guards. Murdered like 20 before the armed guards showed up. Once they showed up, I killed them too. Once I killed them, it was a blood bath and I annhilated the whole prison. I blew up the power generator early on, so it was like the police department scene in Terminator 1. Ended up with 1362 points

Here is the prison as I received it. Immediately I notice a few things that grind my gears. First, no remote doors. Second, no laundry. Third, no security room. Finally, no surveillance cameras. I shall aim to fix these things. I start by starting research on remote access. I'll want to star installing remote doors asap. I love remote doors. Here is my new dorm and laundry room in progress! I also upped the intake to 10 per day. At least temporarily to fill the new space! This surely won't backfire. I had 2 guys get into a fight in the cafeteria in the evening. Kori was still unconcious hours later, so I had to call the paramedics. 4 guys seemed a little much, but whatever. Wiring for the new door and camera system as well as the new security office! Violence is continuing to be a problem. Yep a big problem. We have a RIOT The cause? They really wanted to kill a snitch named Duncan Nash. Guess he shouldn't have ratted his partners out on... Criminal Damaging? Another fight later in the afternoon! I decided to stagger the eat and shower times to reduce traffic and crowding. I've also added a phone tap to hopefully ID snitches and other security threats as well as adding more guards. Things are getting worse! But it's not my problem now!
