I'm guessing they thought he was dead for sure, but man they really didn't rush over to put him out.

Yeah that's the vibe I got. The only thing I can think of that might have allowed him to live would be the path of least resistance moving quickly over into the plasma channel of the arc and away from his body. Even then, no matter how brief the initial jolt was, that had to be one hell of a flash. The camera just goes white.

Has anyone attempted or theorized a sort of fission-powered turbine? I don't mean like the Project Pluto ramjet, I mean something involving an aerosol suspension of a fissile substance that is compressed to critical mass by the engine cycle. This would obviously be extremely deadly, but would it work?

I've never seen "It can smell fear" applied in seriousness to an inanimate object....but here we are.

I have definitely used commercial lawn equipment to which this applies. Namely, a Scag walk-behind with a Velke wheel attachment. You have to be confident and almost sort of hang loose and not manhandle it, or it will throw you off like a bucking bronco.

I examined the video of this a little closer, and the apparent forward motion of the port vessel is an illusion of the waves passing. Just before the collision, if you compare the relative positions of the port vessel's bow and the surface spray from the starboard vessel (which doesn't move with the waves) it becomes apparent that the port vessel could actually be the stand-on by virtue of being anchored.

edit: the video is such poo poo quality though that I can't be sure now.
