Man of Steel is a bad movie, but it is in no way playing on 9/11 traumas and suggesting otherwise is dumb.

ZakAce posted:Seeing as noone's posted this: Body of Evidence is going to be AMAZING. I hope Todd gets Lindsay to join him in some form, just to pay off some continuity from way back. Also it's kind of weird to see him refer to A League of Their Own as a cultural classic deeply embedded in the very heart of American pop culture because I had literally never heard of the movie until I was looking at the films Madonna was in to know what Todd was going to review. I mean it seems like the kind of thing I would have seen at some point, but I never have.

Girl from Lover's Lane is kinda sad. Also Red Zone Cuba is either a profound statement on the ultimate pointlessness of life, or just a lovely movie.

Jimbot posted:Watching the Bloodborne previously_rec stream and I don't think I agree with them that Bloodborne requires grinding to defeat bosses. I think it is set up in a way that you would be going through the same area multiple times because of unlocking shortcuts or looking for secrets and things you miss. You certainly could grind, for health potions and things like that, but I don't think it's required. Rich Evans even implied that you cannot master the game in the same way you could master the Xbox version of Ninja Gaiden. I don't think I agree with that. Aside from a few enemy types (those NPC hunters, gently caress those guys) every boss has patterns and attacks that leave opens, some smaller than others, that you can learn and get through with minimal damage. It definitely does require grinding for health potions and bullets.

Jay O posted:Puh-reach. Saw a facebook friend's early review from an Age of Ultron screening, and he said it was super-duper lorey and overcomplicated and bloated, with that specific homogeneous Marvelverse tone as homogeneous as it's ever been. This is a guy who's really into the Marvel-movieverse for that reason, so it was a kinda-positive review, just cautioning others. But his take was "Guardians of the Galaxy times 20, in both the good and bad ways." Uggggggggh. Not my bag. Will be so glad when the superhero movie bubble pops and we maybe get some kind of trend that's not so much the exact same bowl o' cereal in every film. I know it's all product, but give me a different flavor every now and then for chrissake. It kind of hurts that I'm not very interested in most of the characters heading up the MCU. I like the Hulk, but he's been out of the spotlight for a while. GoG was a bit better because it was composed of characters I barely knew anything about. Was kind of hoping for Dr. Strange to be worth something, but Benedict Cumberbatch, while a decent actor, bodes ill. Also yeah, same bowl of cereal in every film.
