A new OHW is up for Todd subscribers. This time it's St. Elmos Fire by John Parr which is a song that I've heard but never known the name of.

I don't really got the whole archetype of incompetent, douchebag Australian rival lifeguard in Baywatch. I can understand the douchebag thing but Australia does actually take lifeguards pretty drat seriously considering we get really bad rips, an incompetent one would be gone so quickly.

I was diagnosed with severe depression two years ago to the extent of having to take anti-psychotics, everything that Bennett was saying at the end rang true with how I had felt for the longest time.

I kinda hope that Todd talks more about their post MMM-Bop career as opposed to the song itself. I mean, the song is a product of the late 90's much like songs like Steal my Sunshine while they developed into a pretty respectable indie act.

A lot of people hate Lost World because it's really loving long at 135 minutes and feels even longer. JP3 is poo poo but it's only about 95 minutes long or something and doesn't really drag anywhere near as much as Lost World.

One frustrating thing is that when there's a crossover, the reason behind it is always "I'm sadistic and I want to torture the other person" instead of being something that a normal person would do.WickedHate posted:I watched the Langoliers a long time ago after reading the book, and it sure is something. Until the monsters come, it's pretty atmospheric and mysterious. Then the CGI meatballs attack... God drat the new Nostalgia Critic review was a slog. Osmos Jones is a flawed film (mostly because of the live action stuff and it's got some bad tonal shifts) but the heart of it is still a parody of buddy cop films. Plus the Inside Out skits were some of the worst that he's ever done.

Jay O posted:We considered FLCL, but much like Evangelion or Miyazaki movies, it's been talked to death, and unlike the former subjects, there's...not much to say? It's all style with a strong but extremely straightforward core of substance. It's like an animated series of 90's alt comics about a young boy entering sexual maturity and taking control of his own life and eh. As for doing a show on Gainax in general, that would be a lot of material to sit through. So we'll probably just stick to individual series discussions. In the world of fandom, indifference is every bit as bad as outright trashing a show. If you're meh to something then you just clearly did not get it and did not give it a chance.

Round the Twist, Ocean Girl, Spellbinder, Mission Top Secret, Search for Treasure Island. Spellbinder was actually a co-Polish & Australian production so that would be why Germany got it. German production companies seem to have a hand in Australian kids shows pretty often as I'm pretty sure that the first season of Blue Water High had a German production company partially working on it.

The Horse in Tears posted:The NC Fury Road review sounds a lot like the Matrix review, which is where I finally gave up on the show. They kept on whining that "everyone thinks it's so smart" while saying squat to counter that. It was just a strawman that let them rag on the movie with the same kind of jokes they always make. I think that Bennett doesn't really gives a poo poo that he pisses some people off when he criticizes a popular anime. So instead of having to sugar coat things, he can just come out and say stuff like "Naru may be the biggest bitch in the history of fiction" and not care if it pisses off any Love Hina fans. The other thing that helps is that he's prepared to say that he doesn't like something that's seen as really good but he respects the work behind it. In his top 20 best number 1 hits of all time list, there was like four or five where he was prepared to say that they didn't connect with him personally but he can acknowledge just how good they are.

Wheat Loaf posted:Nightcrawler was best in Excalibur, when Alan Davis drew him looking like Errol Flynn. It also helped that Excalibur was one of the lesser X-men type comics so they could afford to make things weirder or sillier. Like for example Nightcrawler crashes a plane and faces off with the son of Krakoa (aka a hive-mind island) and tricks it into drowning to prove that it's as powerful as its father.

I mean it's not isolated to just him, it seems to happen to anyone semi-famous but it's so dumb when someone can easily call it out and goons in particular love to do it about TB just because of a silly post he stated he really regrets that was 9? years ago. Even in this thread we have an example with it happening multiple times on Doug or Jontron. TB started up a curation group on Steam called FPS police where pretty much they post on the store page is a game cannot get 60fps. He then proceeded to show no clue about how games actually worked because he would do stuff like point out that GTA San Andreas wasn't 60fps when nobody would even care if San Andreas was 60 fps or not because it's 11 loving years old now. And then his retard fans would go onto steam forums for games and complain about them not running at 60FPS along with tanking a games reviews if they'd bought them.
