I don't really got the whole archetype of incompetent, douchebag Australian rival lifeguard in Baywatch. I can understand the douchebag thing but Australia does actually take lifeguards pretty drat seriously considering we get really bad rips, an incompetent one would be gone so quickly.

I kinda hope that Todd talks more about their post MMM-Bop career as opposed to the song itself. I mean, the song is a product of the late 90's much like songs like Steal my Sunshine while they developed into a pretty respectable indie act.

God drat the new Nostalgia Critic review was a slog. Osmos Jones is a flawed film (mostly because of the live action stuff and it's got some bad tonal shifts) but the heart of it is still a parody of buddy cop films. Plus the Inside Out skits were some of the worst that he's ever done.

Speaking of non-graphic PSAs, here's one of the ones they talked about in the episode.

One tends to associate violent PSAs with learning a trade, or working in a labouring or trade job. However I'm currently learning a trade and so far I haven't had to watch a single violent PSA, even though I'm sure they could have made some great ones about running one of these off the end of the table, or getting your hair caught in a sewing machine. Instead we just get OH&S lessons and instructions and quizzes.

Everyone should take this post as a recommendation to check out Gruen Transfer & Gruen Planet. They're generally really funny and really interesting to watch how advertisers tick.

While I haven't gone to see what work it is seemingly advertising, it seems to be for animations of cartoon girls and tentacles. If this is true and not just mocking comedy I must say FOR SHAME to Sage and the Zaibatsu. (I don't really care about Egoraptor even if Metal Gear Awesome was some good poo poo.)

I mean maybe I am just an old goody goody fuddy duddy or SA has turned me into someone who would agree with Tipper Gore, but ahh.. Do we really need this kinda poo poo and why does some folks whose work I really enjoy have to basically be endorsing it?

If it's like consenting adult cartoon characters ehh who cares but I don't think jokes about a chained up and obviously naked Raven from Teen Titans the beloved cartoon who is clearly not happy about it is a good thing at all. :smith:

I'm wrong right? It's just a parody mocking this kinda poo poo right? Kinda like Ghastly comic was cept without a Vectrex in his studio?

(And no I have no clue why YouTube even had it to look at. Maybe because I recently refound Sage on the Tube alongside Radio Dead Air as all the video people not on YouTube move back? Because like the previous videos I was watching included some scary rear end Dark5 poo poo that wasn't :tinfoil: nonsense for once even though I wished it was and some videogame analysis linked to that. I saw cartoon news thingie so I watched em. If it wasn't for hurr tentacle violation poo poo it would have been kinda neat. )

We considered FLCL, but much like Evangelion or Miyazaki movies, it's been talked to death, and unlike the former subjects, there's...not much to say? It's all style with a strong but extremely straightforward core of substance. It's like an animated series of 90's alt comics about a young boy entering sexual maturity and taking control of his own life and eh. As for doing a show on Gainax in general, that would be a lot of material to sit through. So we'll probably just stick to individual series discussions.

Incidentally, we just put out a podcast about Code Geass! And it turns out that the show has ardent, aggressive fanatics even in the year of our lord 2015! We got a lot of salt for this one, and I thought we were pretty kind to it! (Okay, Zac wasn't kind to the second half of it, but me and our guest were pretty chill.) That wasn't good enough for the TAKE CODE GEASS SERIOUSLY crowd though. Yikes.

In the world of fandom, indifference is every bit as bad as outright trashing a show. If you're meh to something then you just clearly did not get it and did not give it a chance.

The NC Fury Road review sounds a lot like the Matrix review, which is where I finally gave up on the show. They kept on whining that "everyone thinks it's so smart" while saying squat to counter that. It was just a strawman that let them rag on the movie with the same kind of jokes they always make.

Compare that to whenever Anime Abandon does a popular and acclaimed anime. It's also a riff/recap show focussed on lovely 80s and 90s stuff, but Bennett and Marc know when to step up their game and present an actual critical argument. Meanwhile Doug and Rob sound like they're filling out a 1000-word essay from one half-formed sentence.

I think that Bennett doesn't really gives a poo poo that he pisses some people off when he criticizes a popular anime. So instead of having to sugar coat things, he can just come out and say stuff like "Naru may be the biggest bitch in the history of fiction" and not care if it pisses off any Love Hina fans. The other thing that helps is that he's prepared to say that he doesn't like something that's seen as really good but he respects the work behind it. In his top 20 best number 1 hits of all time list, there was like four or five where he was prepared to say that they didn't connect with him personally but he can acknowledge just how good they are.

It also helped that Excalibur was one of the lesser X-men type comics so they could afford to make things weirder or sillier. Even in this thread we have an example with it happening multiple times on Doug or Jontron.

TB started up a curation group on Steam called FPS police where pretty much they post on the store page is a game cannot get 60fps. He then proceeded to show no clue about how games actually worked because he would do stuff like point out that GTA San Andreas wasn't 60fps when nobody would even care if San Andreas was 60 fps or not because it's 11 loving years old now. And then his retard fans would go onto steam forums for games and complain about them not running at 60FPS along with tanking a games reviews if they'd bought them.
