Like bandages, okay, Starbound's a little cartoony, I can see bandages taking the place of potions. But then it's like someone added one of those tactical realism mods from Minecraft and now bandages are made of vine fibers. An already slightly jarring bit of flavor suddenly gets very jarring

I think converting vines into biomatter of some sort to make 'bandages' with would make a lot more sense. Tie that and various stimpack recipes to a medical station module and it solves the problem.

As it stands, I imagine that your character is just 'bandaging' themselves by using vine tourniquets

Your memory might be spotty. People were making fun of the game/developers, but being mad isn't a prerequisite for being able to laugh at something terrible. A lot of us were just having fun at the expense of the increasingly large pile of poor mistakes Chucklefish were making in terms of the development they were posting about on their blog and also the nightlies. Maybe some people were upset, but they were being made fun of too by the majority.

The modding community is actually probably tamer than ever, but that's mostly because most of the modders got bored and left a few months into the 9 month wait. The Avian Sex Mod, the Dragon Dildo Mod, the one where you rape tied up/stockaded floran and then use the juice to make drinkable buff items, those were all from before the long wait.

E: In the beginning there were a lot of people that were starting to get pretty upset that the wait was so long, but almost all of them stopped posting for the rest of the wait (except to pop in and tell the thread how bad it is), maybe that's what you remember?

There's a lot of design elements going on like detailed shading, advanced lighting and effects, complex animations, etc., but it's all restrained in this fake-rear end pixelated look for arbitrary reasons. It's like a cargo-cult retro style.

There it is. Modded MC's dumb bullshit is something that developers should be striving to avoid, rather than falling all over each other to implement.
The only people who willingly put up with it are the people who are so far gone that they've erroneously convinced themselves it's actually reasonable and entertaining.

Your viewpoint is hugely skewed and if you tried to put a normal person down in front of Gregtech or Industrialcraft they would tell you to gently caress off and go play Mario or something.

I don't think it's super inspired and a great mechanic, I am just straight up neutral on it. I'd change it if was my decision to make just so I didn't have to deal with the moaning, but other than that It really isn't registering alongside all the games other glaring issues.

You don't have to go full greg or IC to find dumb MC bullshit, even the 'good' mods are full of Stupid Artistic Vision nonsense that does little more than create a hassle for no reason. Pretty much any tech mod now has pointless 'tiers' for poo poo, Thermal Expansion added their ducts back in but now you have to craft lovely ones that can pretty much only carry water without busting before you can craft ones that carry the poo poo you want them to because ~reasons~

Because everyone has different tolerances for different poo poo and I really don't know what you want from me but I doubt you'll be satisfied even if I gave it to you. You're just going to have to deal with the fact that I don't find the teleporter thing, of all loving things, to be as big of a deal.

The game is a box of randomly collected parts and scraps dumped out on the floor and rearranged into a game-like form, big loving whoop that one of the metal bits is bent slightly. Sort of a low priority item when you start looking at issues that need fixing.

If you're gonna go with that metaphor, part of the problem is that, having all these other bigger messes they still need to address, they proceeded to bring in an entirely new metal bit and then hammered it into a bad shape on purpose.

Gently considering the proper location and fitting it in neatly doesn't really help the whole 'pile on the floor' part. Start fixing that and...you know what, this is a really loving stupid exchange of dumb ideas. It's a meh implementation of a feature that wouldn't have been if they could reconcile the sandbox and the tiers in a way that isn't ham-fisted from the get-go.

What is even the discussion to be had? That I don't give as much of a poo poo as everyone else about this one particular feature compared to the underlying problems that lead to the backwards implementation? Deal with it, because I just don't.

In today's Starbound news, crops now need water to grow, and flat out won't grow without them. About every stage's worth of growth water must be reapplied, in addition to the normal time required for the plant to grow. The only things that can water plants are rain and a watering can that looks hard to aim (he fucks it up repeatedly in the demonstration .gif). In addition, the process can't be automated in any way whatsoever, and trying to run water over your plants to speed up the process breaks your crops returning only seeds, regardless of growth state.

Or you could just use a mod that changes the food's description to show its effects.

e: There's at least some merit to that last quote assuming that there will be an automated watering system and it just hasn't been added yet, but even if that's the case what the gently caress are they thinking pushing that in a separate update? If you plan to add sprinklers don't rehaul the whole crop system before putting them in. But then that's part for the course for Chucklefish at this point, changing a system without adding significant features or even anything to make it tolerable.

The majority of the mechanics in the game feel unduly stacked against the player with no real rhyme or reason, and not even in a fun way. In a weird, passive-aggressive "gently caress you, play the game how we want you to or eat poo poo" way.

Which is a very odd stance to take, given it's being applied to a goddamn sandbox game.

Combat feels like it needs two tiers of armor and weapons per Story Tier. Iron gear works well enough when you get it, but is limp for the Moon Mission.
