I need 100 gold. I should talk to the Jarl, track down the group of people or monster he wants killed, kill it, then hike back and tell him its dead so I can collect my gold.

Or I could pick his pocket.

Mostly I turn on Fallout NV now because I've got unlimited companions and the wasteland monster spawns cranked up to the max and I just like to walk around with a hail of gunfire and explosions turning the wasteland into a lightshow that would make the war itself proud.

I'm one of those hardheaded players who sees a "don't go this way" sign and then barges in anyway, so my first time I stumbled into Benny after blasting my way through Jackals, Fiends and some Geckos with Powder-ganger dynamite and shambled into the casino before I stopped and said, "wait maybe I should see if I missed anything first."

Yeah, I find one reason I don't want to go back to Fallout 3 anymore (and I played it a lot) is I just don't like anyone there--it's got some interesting terrain and DC can be kind of maze like and stumbling into a super mutant or slaver stronghold by accident was thrilling and Liberty Prime was a great set piece, but the people don't stick in my mind and I don't want to visit them again.

To be fair, Follows-Chalk shows up in the distance when you have just been ambushed by a fuckton of dudes also in the distance, and I could not visually distinguish him from the ambushers at a glance--if he said something, I didn't hear it over the gunfire. If I hadn't used VATS to find out he was a named guy and not in an attack stance, I might have shot him too.

This game is going to be hailed as a beautiful commentary on sexual identity politics: "Society (and the mad scientists who built me with lies!) tried to make me believe I was straight, but I know the truth! I am a gay robot!"

No lie, I was very happy to see that you can wear a red evening dress as a man.

My favorite characters are the ones that kind of emerge by accident from how I play the game. Like my first character in New Vegas became "Scotch" McCoy, a disgraced NCR medic who became a courier to get away from his dishonorable discharge after he botched too many surgeries because he was addicted to Scotch whiskey and Med-X. I wore nothing but my field surgeon BDUs and charged headfirst into battle with a deathwish, drugged and drunk, and the Shotgun Surgeon perk to cut through thugs.

I'm going to invent something colorful for this guy/gal too. Imagination has no limit!

Hrm, wow. Unless the perks are great, unless a low int is like -90% exp gain I can't see it being a big focus in a build. Swift Learner perks were never really very good unless you were in some kind of hurry, and now the whole stat is just Swift Learner. You have a game world with infinite XP to draw on.

marshmallow creep

I've been sitting here for 5 mins trying to think of a joke to make but I just realised the animators of Mass Effect already did it for me

So just for my own sake, I stepped through the video to look at the stat descriptions:

quote:

S- carry weight, melee
P- awareness, "sixth sense," accuracy
E- health and action point drain
C- persuasion and prices
I- exp gain rate
A-action points and sneak
L-crit rate recharge, item find

Depending on how certain things work in the game's design, Perception is either going to be super important to actually hitting things or borderline useless, Endurance and Agility will be essential to VATS use, and Luck might just be the best thing in a game about finding garbage to play with.
