She doesn't like this thread and she is probably going to be permabanned instead of accepting help.

Gunky Junket, I am really glad that you chose to read and post in this thread and I don't mean glad in a way that is at your expense. Thank you, I hope you keep at it, at your leisure of course. Also thank you dct and the helpful BYOB posters for exceeding my best expectations for this thread! Keep up the good work one and all. ---------------- |

GEExCEE posted:does anybody else have this problem - I feel like I can't actually "read" a gunky junket post, like I can imagine my eyes moving across the letters, but the posts just kind of bounce off of my brain Yep. A couple posters earlier in the thread were comparing this disjointed erratic style to the way a bipolar or schizotypal person might organize his or her writing, BUT I think it is probably counterproductive to pathologize it in this thread. I have called GJ mentally ill in the past; it was not meant as an epithet or insult but regardless I probably should not have. Whether true or not, it's not my or anyone's place to make a medical diagnosis over the internet so I apologize for that, and more pragmatically, telling someone she is mentally ill is a good way to invite her to tune out any constructive criticism that follows. Most of the posters on this whole website probably have some kind of mental illness anyway, so what! ---------------- |

It is against the rulez to publish a book with an unclear or misleading cover.

I worry a little whether GJ sees this whole thread as a procedural hoop she was made to jump through before she is allowed to go back to posting the same way as ever, rather than a resource she can continue to use for her own benefit. It is difficult for me to know what I've successfully communicated to her and I guess that is no less my fault than hers, since it takes two to communicate. One thing that was mentioned earlier but I think bears emphasizing, is that not all of Gunky Junket's posts are unsuitable for the forums. She has made posts that are totally fine, I'm not going to check post history but it's safe to assume the majority are unobjectionable. I don't even ask her posts necessarily be good (though multiple BYOB posters already find them good), but whatever the easiest way to get to a 100% rate of merely unobjectionable or better, would be a total success for the goal of this thread. ---------------- |

I forgot about that and it is still really funny. I am glad you cooperated Al Borland. Do you have any advice on how to persuade gunky junket to post more in this thread?

dogcrash truther posted:The qualities of the posts that seem objectionable to me are: Anyway in PM she has asked me for specific feedback on some of her posts, which I think is an encouraging response that she's willing to identify things to change (or is just a way to get attention for her posts, but benefit of the doubt). I don't have the time or effort or willpower to do this though, it's hard enough to understand one PM, and besides that's what I was hoping she could use this BYOB thread for. Some of these had notes next to them to explain context but I'm removing them because I'm reposting this without her permission and besides if your post needs a note explaining it, you already know it was a bad post. She noted that these are not a "best of" compilation, I think it's meant to just be an eclectic sampling, which is exactly appropriate. quote:Thread: GBS gossip and news Well BYOB, if anyone wants to critique even just one or two of these maybe it would help?? Even if it's just to say "This post is fine, it's nice and short" or "This post would fit in in BYOB but it's not right for a gray forum because ____" ---------------- |

FluffieDuckie posted:wow. see here's the thing. there are people in this thread legitimately typing effort words at you trying to help you stick around and not get probated because you seem to hate that when it happens. but then you act like this. Whether this thread is ultimately successful or not, the BYOB posters in it have exceeded my expectations with your helpfulness, insight, and posting advice. ---------------- |

Wertjoe posted:Out of curiosity what makes GJ into a special project instead of just being another bad poster who gets banned/permabanned? CAT BRUSH posted:there has been a lot of solid advice in this thread but i'm not sure it's being received well, since it's kinda mandatory gj participates. is it possible to motivate someone who doesn't seem willing to cooperate? i liked gunky junket's posts (esp at first) but when those posts turn into defensive ones it gets a bit weird and hard to read Her posts in this thread seem defensive, perhaps because it can be very hard to know how to take criticism. Her participation is actually not mandatory though; the mandate is that she somehow figure out how to post in an acceptable way. I asked DCT to create a thread as a resource to help her to that end but if she can figure it out some other way instead, good. ---------------- |

alnilam posted:Gunky junket your posts are fine when you are not addressing a particular person. But every post itt you make towards someone who was trying to be genuinely helpful, where you berate them and get super defensive, just makes you look really bad. We've all read the post you're responding to, do you think you're going to trick us into thinking it was disingenuous and then side with you? Maybe we could pivot this thread into genuine helpful posting tips for anyone who wishes to opt in instead of just gunky junet. Or maybe that's a better idea for a new thread or maybe both thread ideas are stupid. I suppose it feels like a waste that a lot of posters have really good posting insight and it's going to be ignored.
