Bonnouji

This Girl is not Just Cute

Ore Monogatari

Couples in relationships + adult characters:

Tonari wa Nani o Kuu Hito zo - Horoyoi
This is actually a sequel but the first part is more of a cooking/slice of life thing that doesn't really get that romantic until almost at the end, and imo the sequel can stand alone as its own thing but it does expect that you already know all the characters. It's still cooking/slice of life but it's also a couple living together and figuring that out + joining the workforce and all that young adult post-college stuff. Very chill and low-key also.

Mobuko's Love is a workplace/college-age setting and extremely cute and earnest so if you aren't already reading it you should check it out. The couple is still sort of fumbling toward getting together but they're trying their best :kimchi:

I'm Nearly 30, But This Is My First Love
Just what it says on the tin. Working adults who are kind of late bloomers in their first relationship and figuring out how it all works. It's really cute and also has very good supporting characters!

Futari Ashitamo Sorenarini
Comedy/slice of life with a couple who have started living together. Another one that's pretty low-key, it has kind of a dry sense of humor but can also be sweet.

My Husband is a Housewife
Updates may be slim on this one, it got licensed recently. It plays around with gender roles a bit, but mostly it's comedy/slice of life with a newly married couple.

Glad you're reading Kawaii Hito already, I really love that one :3

e: you might join us in the shoujo thread if you aren't hanging out in there already

That fourth one is the one I was talking about. I'll post some descriptions for the ones I posted as well.

Yandere Kanojo - Uber affectionate delinquent girl and honors student secretly date with hilarious results.

Wotakoi - Functional Adult otaku romance.

Kekkon Shitemo Koishiteru - Happily Married Life The Manga.

Bonnouji - Girl coming off a messy breakup starts to hang out with apartment neighbor who's room is basically a storage museum of weird stuff from his brother.

This Girl is not Just Cute - Meek herbivore of a guy with terrible luck and maxed out purity and good boy stats dates cute and tough as nails girl.

Ore Monogatari - Takeo Gouda is The Man we should all strive to be in life.

Lovely Complex - HS the manga. Lots of goofy awkward romance ad comedy ensues.

Kawai Hito - Guy with fierce looking face who's a big softy meets

Kimi ni Todoke - Girl who looks like Sadako becomes friends with the most popular guy in school. It's very nice.

Taisho Otome Otogibanashi - Historical romance in 1920's Japan. It's really, really good. Yuzu is the UBER WAIFU.

Wotakoi as well, so drat good. One of those instances where the anime was as good as if not better than the manga. I liked Ore Monogatari but found it just kinda didn't do much, not sure why.

I'll throw out a recommendation in the same vein: My Perfect Girlfriend. It's got a dynamic between the lead characters that's extremely close to a very real, Not Stereotypical Manga Japanese couple. They make bad jokes, get cutesy, and really seem to enjoy each other's company without being lovey-dovey. It's so real.

Thanks tons for the recommendations, I am checking them out over time! I'm not much of an overall shoujo fan but I'll check the thread out at some point.

Anything jump out at you guys as an easy suggestion? I don't watch dubs so I really have no clue which are good (aside from Bebop).

Among whatever other series I/you guys can come up with, I'll probably give her a sampling of good movies (like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Tokyo Godfathers, Your Name) since I think they typically have good dubs.

My favorite Anime is Mononoke (not the ghibli movie)

These I've really enjoyed:

Black Lagoon
Dragonball Z
Yuyu hakusho
Jo Jo (with the season with extremely rude JoJo being my favorite.)
Hellsing was really cool when I was 13
The Dub of Ghost Stories
Trigun
Cowboy Bebop
Neuro: Supernatural Detective
The 7 Deadly Sins
The Devil is a part timer
That robot one on netflix with the shapeshifting coin operated car
Carol & Tuesday

One Piece is VERY long, but I can give a list of filler to skip with some episodes that are actually worth a watch even though they're filler. But to add a series, Outlaw Star is a solid anime GotG show you might like.

Any other recommendations for comedy anime that's got a story-based setting like this? As opposed to comedies that are slice of life or more surreal. Bonus points for something where there's not a lot of tension.

I've tried/am familiar with Konosuba, Gintama, The Devil is a Part Timer.

Just want to luxuriate in that vibe for a while, a whiskey by my side. If there's a government conspiracy that keeps the main character down too, all the better.

What I'm really looking for is anime that is:

- Adult in themes, dealing with realistic emotions (doesn't have to be depression anime, doesn't have to be set in modern Japan)

- On the shorter side, nothing longer than 26 episodes at most

- Good
