Only one, surely.

If Allison's takeaway here is that having prosthetics is hiding from your loss, uhh... probably a step down from the depression.

She lost a leg too.

And it's not just about having prosthetics - she didn't remove the arm - it's having ones that are such perfect recreations of the original organ that you could believe you never lost it.

Makes sense, as the demiurges loosely line up with the seven deadly sins, and Incubus could conceivably be Lust (or Envy, although I personally think Gog is a better fit for that).

Incubus is literally called Incubus. The first we heard of him he was represented by a consort. He is absolutely the Lust one.

Maybe the biggest principle of Royalty is Doing poo poo, and the biggest barrier to Royalty is Not Doing poo poo. All of the demiurges, except maybe Jagganoth, wound up ceasing to Do poo poo due to their various hangups, and that is how they fell short of Royalty.

One thing I'm not sure about : since there are as many keys as there are universes, does that mean a herald with a single key lended to them can only use it to navigate from Throne to one world and back, or can it be used to travel freely?

As I understand it each key is tuned to one universe. Allison has the master key that can open any of them.

I don't think Hussie was writing Homestuck with spite for his fanbase, but he definitely wasn't interested in telling a conventional story. He had good enough chops at character and setting writing to set up something that people wanted to read as a story anyway, and that was only ever going to end in disappointment.

It'd be criminal to talk about things that came out of Homestuck without mentioning All Night Laundry. It's the best story out there to use that forum adventure format. Hell, it actually manages to be a time travel story that wraps up in a satisfying way.

So. Is that The Question?

Thundarr posted:

If it's not something that could conceivably make you have an existential crisis and flee in terror simply by hearing it, it is not The Question.

Hmm, it wouldn't work on just anyone. But it would work on Maya. Maya didn't kill the rat, Incubus did. Incubus only cared about winning - Meti told him to kill a rat, so he did, because this would help him become a great swordsman. Maya hesitated, because the rat was innocent and she felt its life should be spared. Meti taught her that the only way to stop a bad guy with a sword is a good guy with a sword.
And, in the long run, Meti taught her what the good guy with a sword becomes.

This is why Maya was Meti's real student, and not Incubus. Incubus was an ideal heir to carry on Meti's legacy of swordsmanship. Maya was the heir to Meti's paradox, and this is now what she's imparting to Allison.

I'm sorry if this makes me thick but...White Chain's alive?! Did she get split off in a different direction at the last fight then and found her own way back?

Yeah. We did know this (although not presented in the comic) already - the War for Rayuba game had White Chain leading the loyalist faction against Jagganoth's forces.
I assume the fact this scene is happening in Throne rather than Rayuba is the actual canon consequence of how that game shook out.

habeasdorkus posted:

White Chain dropping the same lines as from the start of the comic shows you can take the angel from the stone, but you can't take the nerd from her monologue.

Not just that - when White Chain wants to boast her power to someone, she does it exactly the same way as before any of this nonsense. White Chain never needed to grow stronger, she just had to learn to be proud of who she already is.

Webcomics are a very loose and diverse field. All kinds of comics get inspired by all kinds of other comics and once in a while you'll suddenly be introduced to an absolutely amazing comic that turns out to have been running for seven years already (have you tried Clown Corps?) New up-and-comers come out all the time, but when a comic is new you can never really be sure it'll stay the distance rather than go on permanent hiatus the moment the author gets bored.

As I understand it, ordinarily devils don't have much of a fixed identity and frequently reinvent themselves. The purpose of the mask and name is to bind them with fixed notions of identity, and without those they'd just dissolve back into chaotic hunger.
Nand reassembled Yabalchaoth's mask and re-bound her with the intent of resurrecting her, and in doing so imposed enough of an identity of Yabalchaoth on her that that's who she became, even though there's no way for her to meaningfully contain the same soul flame. Now, Nukoku has done the same thing, but entirely to herself, with nothing more than the barest sliver of mask to push that identity on her. She's a devil who wants to be a specific identity, with a comfortable life of modesty, both things that are supposed to be utterly antithetical to what devils even are.
