You mad bastard.

Also the IS300 is the first sunroof'd car I've had in about a decade, but I'm swiftly reminded that it's only usable for about 2 weeks of the year in Perth, other than as a means to let the 60 degree air out before the AC takes over.

Holy poo poo I'm tempted to use it to flip drivers off constantly though.

Surely 44+ degree days aren't exactly a regular occurrence in NSW, though.

Until the last couple of years, no. The weather patterns have changed for sure tho - we have had more like Brisbane style humidity AND a whole string of 40+C days, let alone twice this year I've been up at 4:30am and the temperature is STILL 33-34C.

I dont know why but the Liberty is a very odd about driving fro point A to point B. It's like... welp I'm here, where did the drive go? The Commodore was a big cruisy car but it was never ..... forgettable to drive? I guess is the phrase I'm looking for. Everything is quiet, vibration free and just passes under the radar. Kinda the perfect spy car - it's there and then you forget it ever was there.

Dunno, I guess I expect a 10 year old car to have SOME sort of squeak or rattle somewhere. Also the H6 really is ice smooth. It IS a great car to drive, there's plenty of feedback etc but it's still just seems to be able to get where you want with the absolute minimum of fuss and bother.

Upside - the visibility looking out is fantastic. Sane A pillars are awesome

Yeah I am shitscared of what February will hold for Perth. We were saved by a cyclone so far (it rained all week til today) but given 44 is pretty average weather for this time of year and has been for as long as I've been here, it's going to get hosed up when we have a heat wave. ANYWAY BACK TO FETISHISING HYDROCARBON PRODUCING MOTORVEHICLES.

That gen Liberty was really high on my list when I was car shopping this time around, and if it wasn't for the fact that the Spec B was just a little bit more than I wanted to spend, I'd definitely have gone that way. And with my Mrs hounding me for a second I just might. I got the IS300 for a steal though, and even though it's lacking power vs the H6 Liberty, it's a really smooth and quiet ride. I had a little BA Astina before that, and you almost feel like a passenger driving the Lexus in comparison. You can have quiet, smooth cars while still having good handling and steering feel, and I think that's what's so great about those Liberties.

Commodores are all the wrong kinds of driver detachment, though - although I'm not going to lie, I really like the look of the last gen SV6s I keep seeing everywhere. It's a shame they finally got something right, and now they're done.

Well I assume the price you're getting these basket cases for is a factor...

I've been looking around at the idea of a cheap project, and a running, ridiculously high mileage(300+) GC8 with a PO fuckery score of 11 is going to run about 4k. Haven't seen anything unrego'd but repairable for a while but even then a clean shell/dead motor would probably fetch 2-3k. And I consider that pretty drat cheap for something that can be made to go pretty fast that isn't super prone to rust (in WA).

Rego'd running S13s are around the same price now so that's probably driving prices down a bit. But I assume the problem children you're adopting are going for somewhat less than that.

No facebook groups, just gumtree so far. Might check that out if I ever get serious. Also Perth generally costs more for everything so there's that too.

Ram raid or just joy ride? That was around the time when crook locks and immobilizers really took off, as anything remotely fast and not well protected was being pinched, driven hard and put away torched - I'm fairly sure that's when the phrase "drive it like you stole it" came about.

I'd say ask my LS400, but it's most likely part of a Chinese bridge now, having been cubed after said bottom hose dumped coolant all over the road and warped the heads before I even noticed the temp was up.

Boosted in a GC with a 6 speed for Hill climb madness? I'm pretty sure it's been done enough times by now that most of the process has been documented.

The MCM guys did it with an EZ36 and got a liberty wagon into the 11s on 8psi, so a decent flex fuel setup with better rods should get you something stupidly fast, if that's a thing you want.

Hng. someone on Gumtree is offering an 04 wagon for swaps with a small/mid-size automatic (like say, an '03 IS 300), but it's visually pretty rough and the aircon "needs re-gassing" (aka overhauling and every seal replacing).

Also a 200k KM 2JZ and a 200K KM EJ-T are pretty different stories.

One day though.

Apart from letting hot air out after parking in the sun, I only ever use mine for about 2 weeks of the year, only after sunset when it's cool enough to not need the aircon but warm enough to have it open. Also only below 80km/h.

Considering the way they invariably break or rust, gently caress anyone who options one.

I kinda like popping mine on a warm summer evening, but the problem is I live in the outer suburbs of Perth now, and about 90% of my driving happens on the freeway, and at 100km/h it's really uncomfortable.

Toyota: "So to avoid spinning up a new production line, we'll be using the tyres from a Prius, the lower control arms from this other model, the fuel pump from this one, the power steering from that one. There's no point engineering a new part if you don't have to."

WA cops definitely still go after people under 25 in Japanese imports, and probably started going after middle eastern looking people since I was really active in those circles, because it's currently the done thing in Australia.

I know that I was never harassed after 25, but I also drove clean cars without body kits or ostentatious (or good tbh) looking rims, never bothered with adjustable coilovers, vanity plates, or other cop bait nonsense.

Also holy poo poo, I'm in Auckland at the moment and it's import porn. If you like 90s/00s JDM, you really must.
