Bad Optics here, not a good idea compared to 'between two ferns' - Seinfeld is supposed to be hanging out with fellow comedians.

"Obama's a comedian alright, and the jokes on us"

But I bet Obama never gets to drive and he just wanted to do something cool.

Obama has been doing a round of atypical interviews, including him interviewing a kid for storycorps.

Pretty sure Obama gives no fucks about optics any more. He has finally realized that no matter what he does the right will call him Hitler, so he's just doing what he wants.

No, it's just typical lame duck stuff. You have two years and as long as your own base doesn't really care, you're not going to harm anyone's election prospects

Martin O'Malley fails to qualify for Ohio's primary ballot

The Guardian posted:

Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley failed to qualify for Ohio’s primary ballot after falling short of the signatures needed to appear before the state’s voters, a spokesman for the state’s elections chief said on Thursday.

O’Malley needed 1,000 valid signatures to appear on the 15 March primary ballot. The former Maryland governor’s campaign submitted 1,175 signatures, but only 772 were deemed valid, Josh Eck, a spokesman for the Ohio secretary of state, Jon Husted, told the Associated Press.

Oh. Business as usual.

I've heard of Unitarianism but never looked too deeply into it. It sounds like all the positive aspects of liberal religious traditions (community, charity, social justice, etc.) with none of the judgmental or supernatural bullshit.

Which is why Texas tried to strip them of their tax exempt status a while back (and failed, thankfully).

The supernatural bullshit is optional, but you get to pick your own if you want it. So you have a fair number of atheist UUs, but also pagan UUs, vaguely pan(en)theist UUs like me, a smattering of Christian/Jewish/Islamic UUs, and a bunch of miscellaneous. It also varies heavily by congregation. The one closest to me is very strongly atheist/humanist, which I have nothing against but find a little boring, so I drive a little out of town to the one that has more pagans, deists, lapsed methodists, and cool atheists who are a little more chill about the rest of us having our weird superstitious nonsense.

It's definitely great if you have kids and want to help inoculate them against religious conversion attempts and other nasty bullshit they can run into, plus there's a comprehensive, LGBTQ-positive sexuality curriculum for Sunday school.

The running theme I'm seeing is that even a healthy chunk of conservatives/cop apologists thought the Tamir Rice case was going to be a slam dunk, and are kinda left scratching their heads over the result. Appallingly blatant miscarriages of justice tend to have that effect.

The drivers behind the spike were expiry of the Bush tax cuts on individuals earning over $500,000 and the survival of the ACA, so this is entirely Obama's doing.

I just don't know how we could trust Hillary as President to not continue Obama administration policies and use NSA to spy on Congress.
