There should be a questionaire that people have to fill in before being allowed to watch the new film with questions like "Which is the better song: Lapti Nek or Jedi Rocks?" If they pick either one they're escorted from the building, if they have no idea what those two things are they're waved on into the theatre.

Edit: apparently they've already banned people in costumes from being allowed to see the film which is a step in the right direction
http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2015/10/30/local-theaters-implementing-bans-on-costumes-for-new-star-wars-film/

The headline is rather misleading; they're only banning face masks and weapons props.

Are these people serious? Why would they want to spoil the movie for everyone just because their precious EU is no longer relevant. I guess this means I'll be staying away from anything Star Wars related on Facebook, etc..

These groups infuriate me. I'm all for continuing Legends. I'd love to wrap up some loose threads there. But they all, without fail, devolve into "hate on the new stuff" and have nothing to do with their professed original mission.

I like the cultural experience of seeing a bunch of movies surrounded by other fans, plus the "catching up" before the 7th movie has some appeal. And then there's something magic about seeing childhood favorites back in theaters again. Yeah I can pop in the Blu Ray whenever I want...but it's not the same.

Speaking of, my Mom used to work for Lego, and I remember when she had taken me and a friend to a private premiere of The Phantom Menace before it was released. The movie, even though its probably my least favorite of the three prequels, still holds a special place in my heart because of that.

That's really one of the best parts about Star Wars in general - it appeals to many different generations and has become one of the longest lasting pop-culture phenomenons unlike any other franchise that has come before or since its release.

I have fond memories of mom pulling me out of school early and taking me to meet my dad at the theater near his work and getting to see Phantom Menace on its release date. :unsmith:

Re: World Building

Heres the most important bit that the movie leaves out:

The New Republic and the Empire-turned-First Order exist in a state of technical peace. As long as the First Order hangs out in their territory the New Republic won't go to war with them. But the First Order is doing stuff like terrorizing unaligned planets, building huge armies and super weapons and the like, so Leia and a few others splinter off and form the Resistance. The Resistance is not officially supported by the Republic, but a few lines (such as wishing the fleet would show up against Starkiller Base) imply that the Republic had either implicitly or explicitly promised to support "legitimate" military operations against the First Order.
