I have yet to get a single one of those hack bonuses that increases the hack skill, and so even with save-scumming I've never gotten one of the riskier rewards like controlling a MEC with Haywire Protocol. I want to play around with badguys but the game won't let me!

Does having a scientist passively boost research times or do they have to be in a lab?

Actually, while I can see a bonus for taking South America, my North America doesn't have a bonus at all. I have contacted neither; is it possible for zones to not have bonuses or do you have to be within a certain proximity to tell?

Specialists improve hacking as they level and get a bonus from upgrading their gremlins. Rarely (I've had one come up in my game so far and I'm in tier 3 armor) you get a hack reward that is just a straight +20 to your stat forever.

What's this about autopsying a turret? I've killed several turrets, I have no more research left to do, and I don't have an option to build a defense room. only rooms I can build right now are power and comms because I've built everything else available.

I got really lucky with my first sectopod encounter and pulled off the Mechlord achievement by taking control of it and letting it tank literally the whole map by itself, including two Codex, and Andromedan, an Elite Lancer and a Shieldbearer.

Two things might be happening there: If you don't have eyes on a pod, you can't see their detection squares, which can spill over into places you step. The other is buggy line of sight, which happens sometimes.

I had one map where I put a phantom ranger in the bed of a truck, and if she moved, it activated a pod on the other side of the map. I reloaded a few times to see if I could get around it, and it was the same every time.

This was a while ago, but I took Shadowstrike over Shadowstep mostly because it's so easy to end an enemy's overwatch, especially if you have someone with a stock on their weapon. That was often my Specialist's job: if an enemy goes on overwatch, shoot at 'em and you're guaranteed to end it before anyone gets hurt.

In fact, I don't think my Phantom Ranger ever once triggered an overwatch shot even without Shadowstep. It was just never that much of an issue.

More over, Lightning Reflexes was good for when you needed to make the enemy waste their overwatch; simply not triggering with one character isn't as useful because you then still have an overwatch to dispose of.

I wish the stuff you buy in the black market would tell you what it does before you buy it. I mean I could guess that perception PCS means improving aim, but it could have reduced fog of war for all I knew until I actually had on in my inventory. On that topic, I have a game design idea!

I'd like it if you could stick Squaddie+ soldiers in the GTS and they'd either get a small, fixed amount of xp over time or a percentage of xp from missions. Because I noticed in the midgame that I had my A team, 2 or 3 guys making up a B team who'd sub in when an A-teamer was hurt, and then a fuckton of squaddies. In the event of a total mission wipe, I was going to be utterly boned, because by that point you need to be rocking at least Majors. And then the problem suddenly solved itself when the game just buried me in Colonels as mission rewards, but that's... somewhat unsatisfying? And also dudes who just pop in at Colonel basically have 0 chance to get an AWC skill.

I would like something like that, because when you have a psi center up and running you can grow psi ops faster than you can grow regular troopers. I realized I had only two sharpshooters at one point and started training one up, and in that time I've gotten two psi ops with Dominate, Null Lance and more.
