I thought the crux of the argument was that registration basically means you're a tool of the government/a weapon at their disposal. Cap already did that and hated it. Whether they communicated it well or not is fair game.

The big joke for Marvel properties is that each movie is just a 2 hour long trailer for the next film, but that actually seems to be the case with Batman vs Superman. Our worst fears realized.

Box Office Projections have Batman vs Superman ending up somewhere roughly at $340m domestic. All time superhero domestic would look like this: Avengers: $623m Dark Knight: $534m Ultron: $459m Dark Knight Rises: $448m Iron Man 3: $409m Spider Man: $403m Spider Man 2: $373m Deadpool: $358m BVS (est.): $340m Spider Man 3: $336m So BVS would be 9th all time.

How can we adapt our movie franchises of super powered awesome people to the small screen? Make an ensemble cast of boring paperwork pushers and Alias level espionage. Now everyone has super powers or something? Agents of Shield is bad and has way too many episodes per season. Making a show of D-listers isn't exactly a great idea.

The problem with the DC TV slate is that the seasons are too long. I would like them to switch to a different model where say Flash happens from Sept-Dec/Jan and Arrow happens from Jan-May or vice versa. This is especially apparent in the last couple seasons of Arrow where the story was so thin to stretch it over 23 episodes was kind of laughably bad or exhaustive to how much they struggled.

I liked Doctor Strange. I don't think it achieves the goodness of Ant-Man or Guardians of the Galaxy but I think it does enough to pull itself away from the Avengers mush. It's just making me more bummed that the shared universe is still a thing. The more the single movies isolate themselves from the MCU plot - I think the better they are.

I've been reading this thread long enough that there's a distinct cycle. *marvel movie releases to better than average critical and fan praise* It's bad, actually. *dc movie releases to worse than average critical praise* It's good, actually. And then people fight about differences of opinion. That's my hot take okay.

sassassin posted:The alternative would function like those TVIV threads where everyone is racing to praise new episodes of popular shows the most, quoting lines of dialogue (that don't even turn out to be jokes) as they hear them, and getting their vital two-cents in about how the episode was amazing when it turns out they don't even remember what happened in the third act. It's not pretty or fun. I don't mind the criticism and I enjoy the in depth posts that people make, it's just funny that it always seems to works that way. You can usually pinpoint the person who is going to take x stance. The one weird thing, to me, is some of the criticism seems to take on a definitive statement.

The rumor/conventional wisdom is that Marvel is trying to tank promotion of Fantastic Four to force Fox's hand. But I'd say Fox is doing a bang up job destroying the license on their own. The other important thing to note is that Fantastic Four seem pretty boring compared to what the MCU is doing. If they faded away, I wouldn't be upset. If Mr. Fantastic had been an antagonist of Tony Stark all along - maybe there would have been some nice tension.
