I'm enjoying the game. Currently still in chapter 3 going through every side quest I can because that's how I roll.

All the driving around gets a little annoying but holy crap this game is pretty and Ignis is cool. Prompto is dumb though

Does the game do any scaling for mobs or can I eventually over level my way through some poo poo from doing all the side quests then staying in a fancy hotel to bump my XP even more?

Also for combat - Should I be buying/upgrading weapons for myself/bros often or do I get enough poo poo from side quests/cid upgrades to not need to worry much about weapons? I'm still not following combat very well so I'm not sure how much damage i should be doing at this level (low 20's, sidequestin in Ch. 3)

I've been using chocobos to travel at night but that's good to now. Doing the waterfall dungeon is exactly where I am on the story.

I think I'm running out of things to do in Chapter 3 and may be time to move on. I think I can hit 45 with the banked XP I have right now. All I have left to do is the Malmalam Thicket and whatever bounties I can do and not get killed (I still suck at this combat system)

Lvl 48 and now focusing on hunts. Chapter 3 will never end!

Is there a good list of all the hunts? I want to start tracking these outside the game because gently caress driving to each diner to see if new hunts popped up.

Bring back FF12 combat system where I could just set up the AI to fight the fights for me. Or was that 13? Either way that poo poo owned.

Is there any way to make it rain? I need to kill this frog but it's not raining and he's not showing up.

And yeah I guess it's a tad crazy but I always feel the need to do sidequests when they're available and never advancing story unless I absolutely have to.

I'm almost done with what I can do. I have about a dozen hunts left which will take me to around halfway rank 5. I think I'll need to finish chapter 3 after those to open up other areas and hunts before I can rank up again. I found castlemark (lvl 55) and balouve is still there (lvl 50). I may try those once these hunts are completed. Not sure what's else is there to randomly run into as far as dungeons go. I have 5 royal arms so far and the Ultima blade already.

I'm really, really enjoying this game for some dumb reason.

EDIT: Actually I just ranked up and rank 5 only needs 40 stars so I should be able to hit rank 6 before finishing the chapter.

I'm not sure why you have to grind hunt ranks, hunts are repeatable and there's a low-level hunt from the Old Lestallum diner with those horned guys. The internet says one of the royal arms also increases drop rates (the one with Wise in the name, I think? It doesn't mention this in the weapon description afaik), I equipped that and got it to drop without a problem.

I did this + the mother & child food (increases drop rate). Then I went to that bounty and killed everything but 1 duplicorn, ran away, saved, then killed it and reloaded if it didn't drop. Took 20 minutes tops.

I got to some puzzle room that i think is going to make me clear a ton of dumb poo poo and i didn't bring enough potions for this. I also accidentally stepped on some red orb and now I'm back on top so you know what gently caress you dungeon I'm going to grind and level up elsewhere.

So I wasn't sure how far in the story I was but the game took a sharp turn into poo poo land and I was hating every loving second so I said fuckit and saved.

I was I chapter 13.

Well, I finished it. The game to me is pretty much the opposite of FF13 where I hated the beginning and loved the end.

Here I loving LOVED the first half or so. Then the story just goes on-rails and doesn't stop until the end. You can use Umbra to go back and clear poo poo but I found that to be jarring. I don't think everything past 13 makes up for 13 but it was a good ending.

At least I'm now back in the open goodness of clearing side quests and leveling up.

Is there anywhere that says how much XP is needed from 1-99? Preferably on a per level table. I'm trying to figure out how much farming I need to finish that up.

Happy Noodle Boy
Jul 3, 2002

I am doing that. Just wanted to see how close the XP I got from it (500k x3) will get me or if it's worth trying to do a few more quests to spare me having to do another rest/30k.

EDIT: gently caress it, I'll just cash in what I have now. 1.5M got the party to 90-92. So I guess I do need a couple more rare coins.

This was one of the weirder things to me in the end. Just a moment while I was fighting some of the final battles "... wait wasn't like half the point of me running around to collect all the weapons?" But then I think (at least) one is in a post-game dungeon. Or maybe Costlemark isn't post-game.

It's not. You can get them all beforehand. Castlemark just loving sucks. So is there any particular recipe that gives Ignis tons of XP? I just got everyone to 98-99 so all I have left to do is getting their skills to 10. Prompto and Gladio are almost done but I still have cooking and fishing at level 6.

Also download the free holiday pack and use the Nixperience Band every loving time you camp. Actually you should wear it all the time so you never waste any XP on camps and chapter endings and only level up on Galdin Quay for that sweet double XP bonus.

You can probably stockpile XP and just do 3 big jumps (1 to 30, 30 to 50, 50 to 99) once you have the right amount of experience and completely breeze through the game.

Why are you all coming up with strategies to gain as many levels as possible as if it isn't comically easy to get overlevelled in this game?

Doing all the side quests in chapter 3 whenever available will get you to around 50 if you use most of it on Galdin. Takes a good chunk to hit max level and rare coins are rare. If you can bank all the game's XP and only use it on Galdin and Altissia the amount of grinding needed to hit 99 would be pretty minimal. Especially since a bunch of chapters are on-rails and pretty much back to back you end up getting some XP then immediately using it up with no multiplier at all.

Once I get my platinum I'll probably start up another game to dick around with at low levels until I can make huge XP dumps.

That said, the AP grind is stupid and the ascension grid is dumb with some really stupid requirements.

e: Well I say point of no return but once the game lets you talk to Umbra before you sleep you can return to the open world map.

AM i the only one that's thrown off by this decision? Like they understood their story was too on-rails after a certain point so they let you dream of the past or something through Umbra so you still have access to the open world. Like you have 3 regions but you can only travel to/from them via dogge.

It was a good idea, even if it barely bothers to justify itself in-game. Tabata's team clearly understood how threadbare the game got from Chapter 9 onward and gave players an escape hatch to go back to where the actual gameplay was (plus opportunities for grinding, if necessary).

Oh I don't disagree it's a good idea. I'm just thinking if your story is getting to the point you need to half-rear end an escape hatch... why not change how on-rails poo poo gets?
