So, if you are on KoTH and your team has already captured the point, should your team go to the nearest enemy choke and try to hold them there or should you stick near to the point? Guess which one a pub team tried to do.

Also, is there any way to fiddle with the mic sensitivity? I'm almost sure people other goons were hearing my chair creak over the microphone.

With Symetra?. She really just has that shield, so she needs an actual healer to help out.

Zenyatta is great fun but I think they shouldn't have applied the 3 second LOS restriction to his healing orb. It makes sense for the damage orb but his healing is way too low. Which sucks because he's by far my favorite character design wise.

Arguably her teleport is also a kind of support because it cuts the time it takes to people to get back into the mess, which is almost another kind of resurrection. And I personally I think it's a bit better than Mercy's because the teleport should be in a secure spot protected by her turrets. Outside of that, though, yeah, her shields feels almost like a filler ability (though it makes Tracers and Zenyatta not die to a Widowmaker bodyshot).

As for Zenyatta, I understand why they added the LoS requirement. People would drop a healing ball in their flankers and then the net result is a Tracer with a lot of HP, which isn't fun at all to fight against. Having said that, I think the damage orb should have a wallhack applied to the person with it, on top of the indicator.

drat, that's a lot more than I've been using (and I definitely suck at tracking). I'm used to playing with a pretty high sensitivity on other games and am having trouble adjusting to lower settings. Do you have any tips for getting used to that low of a sensitivity? It feels like that'd take up the entire mouse pad practically. Do you use your shoulder more, or is it still mostly wrist movement?

FPSs are hard.

Move your shoulder more, align the crosshairs by moving your character rather than moving your mouse.

i mentioned a while back that "short range" in this game is actually pretty generous, but I wanted to see exactly what that translated to. so i did some testing, and here's my results:

this is just about on the edge of what the game defines as short range; Mei's gun does 150 damage on a headshot within close range, and the bots have 200 health and each little box represents 25. it's sort of hard to visualize in first person so in the image below i stepped back and left a marker in the third screenshot to hopefully demonstrate a bit more clearly. it's pretty danged far!!

You could use the lane on the right of that spot to get a better measurement of the distance. :eng101:

It's so frustrating that the pubbies suck so much, unlike me, a finely tuned gaming machine. They never support my charges; frequently the entire team is out of position while I'm the only one being smart.

they ruin the team composition by e.g. picking Widowmaker before me, thus forcing me to play the third sniper in our squad. Plus they push enemies to flank me, and throw off my aim with the sheer gravity of their badness, and somehow they even pooped in my pants.

Matchmaking what the hell, Blizzard? Anyone else have this problem?

Pomp posted:

I don't understand Overwatch.

That may seem hypocritical coming from someone who plays Battleborn every now and then, but I understand that. It has varied characters, it's colourful, and it's serving a retro niche that I desire. I'll be the first to admit it's only above average, though. I'm not going to buy bedsheets with it on and it's not going to replace my gaming mainstays. It's a bit of fun to fit in between other things.

The fervour surrounding Battleborn, though? I mentioned that Blizzard hire people for their sociological expertise, and it shows. The whole company is based around tapdancing on the edge of a person's will, and laughing about it.

Frankly, Overwatch is average.

I played it. I gave it a shot. The thing is? It's not a bad game. It's just incredibly mediocre. I just found the characters, level design, and gameplay to be a bit boring compared to TF2. And I found the UI to be a big, cluttered mess (but when could Blizzard ever design a user interface, anyway?).

And there's the fervour. The fervour though seems to be focused on two points: a.) I like waifu porn, so Overwatch is a good game, and b.) 'nah, that brainwashing stuff has no effect on me.' The latter being combined with a religious, zealous, firey fervour to defend Overwatch on every site. And whenever people say that it's just mediocre, there's always a brigade to make sure that they burn in fire for it. Which really proves the point.

Blizzard is good at making average games, but then they tap into the straight, male, extraverted subconscious and create a shallow, addictive thing that's designed to pretty much brainwash them. And then they tie a very average game into that.

Social engineering has been around for aeons, but only psych students really knew of it. I remember back around the time of Wrath of the Lich King, I pointed it out about WoW and its skinnerbox model. I remember some commenter over on another PC gaming site laughing and saying "My college doesn't do computer engineering, perhaps I should try and sign up for this 'social engineering' thing instead, eh?"

Of course, by this point you can just pop 'social engineering' into Google and learn all about it. Different times, I suppose. I don't like being vilified for being knowledgeable, but social engineering and brainwashing is exactly what Blizzard uses to turn an average game into a ritualistic, sun-worshipping cult.

I don't like Overwatch. Not because it's a mediocre game (and it's really no skin off my nose whether it exists or not, because I like people having things that make them happy), but because it reminds me of how easily swayed and brainwashed people are without ever realising it. You can enjoy something without becoming a brainwashed herd.

Sadly, Blizzard games and brainwashed herds are synonymous. Because that's what Blizzard wants. Ignorance is an incredible thing. I guess it just scares me, I think. After all this evidence of Blizzard manipulating people, it still works.

I remember a mother let her kids die because of her addiction to WoW. I remember reading about that. That was a very real thing, but most WoW players would threaten to kill you violently for even suggesting that that was anything more than a delusion.

I guess this is why I can't get behind a Blizzard game. It always feels like joining a cult. I don't want to join a cult, okay?

I have enough troubles in my life without joining cults on top of it.
