Has there been any incarnation of Seaking that wasn't terrible?

Seaking is good and cool.

Also gen 1 gimmick sets were great. Seaking and Destroy was pretty devastating (and also I invented it. I'm not being facetious I legitimately coined the name and set)

I think it was Blizzard, Horn Drill, Agility, Hydro Pump.

Agility jacks up your speed (and thus crit rate and Horn Drill accuracy), which means Blizzard and Hydro Pump ALSO miss less.

This ONLY works in gen 1, of course!

Crosspeice posted:

Noooo, that's not how that works. Crits work on your base speed. Raising speed in battle doesn't increase that, or your accuracy. Blizzard had 90% accuracy so it was pretty good and Hydro Pump has 85%. Horn Drill misses every time if you're a lower level than the target anyway, and 30% otherwise.

To make it so things never miss, use one X Accuracy to skip the accuracy check. This applies to all moves.

But Horn Drill works off Speed straight up?

I know the accuracy was just really high for those two moves which was the BIG reason to use them.

Either way it was literally the only viable Seaking set when Seaking actually had a shot of being anything remotely usable :v:

Let's just say that I am coming back to Pokemon from I don't know, Red and Blue, dabbled in Silver. Is there a non-encyclopedia form of information from all the new stuff or do I just need to scour Serebii and bulbapedia? Like holy poo poo there's like 40 different balls, so many new pokemon, items to be held, certain pokemon only evolve holding certain things at certain times; all of which throw me cause I enjoyed trying to fill the pokedex on the old games but theres 600+ more of them to catch. I'm looking for a laymans guide to all the new balls, items, and evolutions. I have read that an easy way to catch a lot of pokemon are either quick balls right away or a pokemon with False Swipe. I picked up X a while back but real life took over so I'm finally trying to out and quickly overloaded with all the new info.

Honestly, Serebii and Bulbapedia are the best options outside of just playing the games.

I know it sounds super condescending to just say "Just PLAY the GAME" but like...it's a pretty good teacher, all things considered! It does a good job of holding your hand for all the basic stuff they added. As for the new stuff, Dusk Balls and only playing after 6PM is one of the best ways. Quick Balls at the start are alright but with actual damage and status effects, you get ONE maybe TWO throws most of the time.

Considering it can't use a Focus Sash, Eevee is basically hoping you do something that gives it two whole turns to live. Technically MAYBE 1, since 458 speed is hard to outspeed without a Sash, but its' defenses are kind of hot garbage, meaning it's gonna get KO'd pretty easily and all it takes is some priority or power.

I know baton pass isn't used in doubles often if ever, but couldn't it work with eevee? Have the other pokemon use follow me. If the pokemon survives bring in a boosted rugby lemur, steal the ability, bring in the last partner and sweep? I don't get to play doubles so I don't know.

I'm pretty set on moon? I like rugby lemur but I can always trade for it. I usually don't end up using version exclusives anyway, so I just like moon stuff. It would also make sense to have version exclusive final evolutions. I mean, GF should do it to just change it up. Next gen they'll do stone evos for the final forms. haha

It could work, but Doubles is very fast paced and as soon as that became a staple there'd be a counterplay of Taunt. Either Taunt the Follow Me pokemon (Who now can't use Follow Me again) or taunt the Eevee (who is no longer protected by Follow Me after that turn, and now can't use Baton Pass).

It's novel and it's neat and it'll probably rip like RU tiers apart, and it's definitely cute and good and fun, but competitive wise it won't be that bad.

It's not like Haze or Topsy Turvy or other moves that gently caress with stat boosts don't exist

Well, in the current meta the issue is that Speed Boost Ninjask or Blaziken can Swords Dance, Protect, and Baton Pass +2 Speed, +2 Attack to Dragonite or Garchomp and rip your team in half by virtue of Focus Sash guaranteeing that no amount of Flamethrower/Earthquake can stop them.

Eevee has the flaw of not being able to wear a Focus Sash (it's going to have a Z Crystal), and being pretty frail in the first place. A strong attack and a priority attack (if even two) will probably take it out fast.
