My husband and I (48M, 47F) have discovered our daughter (17F) making white supremacist videos online
Hi, everyone. I'm posting here for what will hopefully be some insight about how we can best handle this situation in a way that keeps the best interests of everyone involved in mind.
A couple weeks ago one of my friends told me she had found disturbing videos on youtube by my daughter where she talks about how she hates Jews, Muslims, people who aren't white, and identifies as a "National Socialist". A good amount of my and my husband's friends and neighbors are Jewish, including the person who brought this to my attention. These people have been in my daughter's life for years and have known her and it has spread in our social circle that she is making these videos. Our friends are obviously shocked and hurt, and we are as well. We're also baffled as this is not at all how we raised her, we do not know how she got into this stuff or why but we looked it up and watched all of it and it's undoubtedly her in the videos, filming herself in our home, even wearing shirts with neo-Nazi symbols we didn't know she'd bought, and putting racist views on the internet.
When this happened we quickly confronted her about her online behavior and made it clear she was to stop immediately and delete her channel. I admit we were quite upset and the argument quickly escalated where she got very defensive and condescending towards us. Things have been very tense between her and us since then and I've tried various tactics - the yelling and demanding didn't work, so I tried to ask why she believes these things and does she understand the full impact of what she's saying, etc. She is completely serious about it, not doing it as any sort of parody. I don't know if she really grasps the implications of what she's saying, not just politically but personally as well, how it affects real people including people she knows in real life. Maybe the worst part is that she says she DOES fully understand this.
Her channel is still up and she has continued to post a couple more videos since we found it. She's been asking for financial donations from her followers too. I'm honestly at my wits end trying to get through to her. I've had some of my Jewish friends try to talk to her and that went horribly. I had our priest try to talk to her and that didn't make a difference either. I've grounded her, still no difference. I've explained the history of the Holocaust and the Nazis, she says it's a lie.
So how do we make this stop? Our friends can't understand how she's still posting this stuff and some have started to think we don't care and are also secretly racist or anti Semitic. So it's causing rifts in our friend group as well as fighting between us and her. And I have no doubt it will and probably already has spread outside our friends to other people in town as well.
And then there's of course the possibility that anyone else could come across her videos and that nothing can be permanently deleted from the internet. This will follow her potentially for the rest of her life with applying to colleges, jobs, and anyone who does a search on her. I have explained this as well and even appealing to what should be her sense of self-interest has had no effect. She really has no idea the gravity of the mistake she's making.
We desperately need suggestions on anything we haven't thought of yet as a way to get through to her about how serious and unacceptable this is. I'd honestly take any stereotypical type of teenage rebellion over this.
TL;DR teenage daughter has been making youtube videos where she expresses neo-Nazi white supremacist views and says hateful things towards various minority groups. My husband and I have been unsuccessful at getting her to stop doing this and it's causing a lot of conflict in our family and with our Jewish friends.

My [24M] girlfriend [24F] is a strong Donald Trump supporter. I'm a Muslim, and it makes me very uncomfortable
So my girlfriend and I have been dating since our freshman year of college. We've been living together since our sophomore year, and I'm planning on proposing soon enough.

She's really into politics, while I'm... not. I really couldn't care less. She's was in the debate club in high school and college, was very much into campus politics, and has a major in political science, so you could definitely say politics is her passion.

A few months ago, she told me how she was a Donald Trump supporter. I didn't really think much of it at the time, just thought she was caught up in the hysteria of "make America great again". Her entire family are also Trump supporters, and they make sure to let everyone know through Facebook. My feed is littered with pro-Trump posts from her family {that reminds me, I really need to stop following them)

When Trump announced his Muslim ban, it made very uncomfortable, and pretty drat angry to be perfectly honest. I'm not a very religious person by any stretch, but I am proud of my heritage and do believe in God.

I never really talked to my girlfriend about why she supported Trump, but after he announced his ban, I decided to talk to her about it. So I asked her why she supported Trump, and the basic gist of her argument was that illegal immigration was a huge problem in our country, and he seemed like the only one willing to address it, as well as him being a multi-billionaire dollar businessman meant that he knew how to make deals that would better support Americans rather than foreigners. She also liked the fact that he didn't care for being politically correct.

I asked her what she thought of the Muslim ban, and she said she didn't necessarily agree with it, but did support banning citizens from risky countries like Iraq and Syria. I told her I thought this was very wrong of him to say, and this will only increase vitriol against Muslims in this country and is completely counter-productive. She said she doesn't believe what he was saying was anti-Muslim, and he's just trying to keep this country safe.

The topic really hasn't come up again, which is normal considering we never really talked politics before. However, her support of a man that wants to ban people from my religion from entering this country makes me feel... uncomfortable. Growing up in Texas post 9/11, I've had my fair share of racism and xenophobia spewed my way, and while I know she isn't a racist or xenophobe, it just unsettles me you know? I've been wanting to propose to her for a few weeks now, but this has given me cause to pause, and I want to make sure to settle this before we take the next step. I understand her right to believe what she wants, and I'm completely fine with it! I just want her to understand and empathize with me, and I don't know how to do that.

tl;dr: Gf is a Trump supporter, I'm a Muslim. How do I make her understand why I'm uncomfortable with her support?

Man, I have the occasional issue or minor fight with my girlfriend, but holy poo poo. That post about the girl who contracted a STD (after not getting tested!) from her boyfriend is just plain amazing. How are some of these people able to successfully dress for work in the morning, let alone have a relationship with an actual human being?

I [25] am terrified of my girlfriend [22] getting pregnant because of my ex

quote:

Tl;dr my Ex was nuts pretended she was pregnant a lot and now I think my current girlfriend is always pregnant, it's hurting our relationship

Back when I was 14 I had a girlfriend who was a little bit nuts to say the least, I was with her 6 years and it's safe to say she's done some damage.

One of her biggest things was to make up that she was pregnant and then pretend to have a miscarriage, even before we were having sex she would say something like I must of not wiped my hand before I fingered her or something, when we did have sex it was always with protection but she'd tell me things like actually the condoms aren't actually that safe etc. What can I say I was a gullible kid. Then as I said she would always say she had a miscarriage and be upset for weeks before doing it all again. 6 years later I found out from one of her old friends she made this all up just for the attention and to see how I would react.

3 years into our relationship she actually did get pregnant and had a baby, after this she kept trying to get me to get her pregnant again claiming that the doctors said she has to have all her kids before she's 20 (they didn't) I refused and eventually swore of sex with her but the pregnancy scares didn't stop.

2 years later I found out our child wasn't mine, she had willingly cheated on me with her dads 50 year old friend and the baby was his (DNA test confirmed) stupidly I decided to stay

Then she went for the "well we should have one of our own" angle the scares continue until eventually she left me for someone who would give her kids (she now has 5)

But here's the big problem this whole thing has scarred me, when ever my current girlfriend says she feels ill or has a stomachache anything like I immediately start panicking thinking she's pregnant even if there is no way she is, and it's a really bad panic attack as well. My girlfriend understandably is getting pretty sick of it, I've seen doctors and therapists but nothing seems to help and I don't know what to do, we are currently on a bi weekly pregnancy test and it's killing me

I feel really bad for that kid. He's ultra messed up on account of his lovely helicopter parents. Unless OP's family can somehow intervene for real (and they almost certainly won't be able to), he has nothing to look forward to except a lifetime of therapy, once he hits his upper teenage years. :gonk:

I always assumed that that flavor of hyper helicopter parenting wore off by the time kids were in school, but I guess not...

I [26M] slept with my best friend's sister [19F].

quote:

I've been best friends with the same guy since college and have known his sister for about 3 years. She decided to go to the same college that we did (which is close to where we both live) and would occasionally come hang out with us or bring her friends over to his house.

About a year ago, it was pretty clear to me that she had a crush on me. She got my number through someone else and would randomly text me, or I'd see her staring at me, or she'd come ask me about girls I liked or who I was dating. I refrained from acting on it, because she's my friend's sister.

Until about 4 months ago, that is. My friend had a party at his house and everyone got pretty drunk, so I stayed at his place. After everyone went to bed, she came and found me and said I could share the queen size bed in the guest room rather than sleep in one of the recliners. One thing led to another and...

For a few months after, she would text or call me to come over. At that point, I thought we were just having fun and we talked about how she should date a bunch of people and that I regretted being in a long term relationship in college. I know she slept with at least one other person during this time period, but said she regretted it because she liked me. She also said she assumed I was seeing other girls (I wasn't).

Then there was about a month where she started acting guilty and said she didn't want to do anything unless we were actually going to date. When I said it would be tough but we could try, she said that there were too many consequences if her brother (my best friend) found out, how she didn't want to ruin our friendship, how we were at different points in our lives, etc. Then she said she thought I was cute and smart and funny, but didn't know if she "liked" me.

I was ready to end it and move on. I really like her by now, but you can't really force someone into a relationship and she's right that it would be complicated. And I thought that's what she wanted too, but she kept texting me, liking my photos on Instagram, and flirting with me in front of her brother.

I told her I was done and deleted her out of my phone. I still liked her but we'd essentially broken up. But for whatever reason, she asks her brother to come hang out with us (just me, my friend, and her) one night, and then brings her friends with her to go out to the bars with us the next. At the bar, she starts acting weird again and asks her brother for us to leave.

She texts me later in the week to say she thought we could be friends and that she liked hanging out with me. I told her I didn't think that'd work.

So now I feel guilty about having slept with my best friend's sister, a little heartbroken, and confused about how to deal with this. She still acts like she likes me, but then will push me away an instant later. I've deleted her out of my phone again and haven't heard from her (other than her liking my Instagram photos; I unfollowed her there as well) since Sunday.

tl;dr: Slept with my best friend's sister, she says she wants things to be serious, then back tracks. Try to back off, she still acts like she wants to be with me, then acts guilty about it. Now I feel heartbroken and like a lovely friend.

Yeah, I was about to say that the dude's girlfriend's behavior at the bar was mostly fine if insensitive. Just typical stuff and men do it too. You might think that religious couples might talk about their sexual expectations prior to marriage, even if they're virgins. Considering that sex is extremely important and crucial in any relationship. But that expects too much rationality from people who base their whole lives and world view around a church. They're just asking to get divorced when jumping into a completely unknown sexual relationship.

quote:

Okay so we're not super close but I find that she's really open and never judgmental so I tell her that I want to experiment with girls (not date them) because I don't want to lose my virginity until I'm married to a man. I've been bicurious for a while and somehow we decide to have sex so I guess now I'm bisexual.

So we hang out and have sex a lot and she's been getting really clingy. Sometimes I bring up a guy who doesn't have feelings for me back and she always gets very angry and seems kind of jealous. I started having study dates with one other guy and she says stuff like he just wants to gently caress you or you think he's just helping you for nothing in return?

I don't get why she won't talk about how she feels.

tldr: friend still maybe has feelings for me even though she knows i will never date a girl and she's not being 100% honest
