I read through some really old posts about Trump just to see what people said about him before he became...whatever the gently caress he is. Someone in Vilerat's fwd: fwd: fwd: thread mentioned that he's always been super miffed about being excluded from the Social Register while bragging that his kids are in it. Intrigued, I did some quick Googling and discovered this passage from The New Yorker in 2012: Link here. I'm loving dying imagining him reading that and treating his presidential run as a stepping stone to entry into the Social Register. Edited to include original post, from 2011 jojoinnit posted:Trump is a terrible businessman. He started off with millions from is father and lost it all several times. He managed to bankrupt a casino. In Vegas. He mostly projects his wealth illusion with reality TV money. Remember that most of his namesake buildings were constructed with money from investors who still had faith in him. GalacticAcid fucked around with this message at 23:24 on Oct 1, 2016 |

The VP debate will be a snoozer and no one will care about it barring a catastrophic meltdown that seems exceedingly unlikely given that the two participants are, as you noted, both experienced politicians and office-holders on top of being placid, boring white bread dads from SUV commercials.

Ugh, remember the 2004 VP debate? loving Dick Cheney and John Edwards, oh my god. The main moment I can recall is Edwards saying something nice about Cheney's lesbian daughter and Cheney thanking him.

"Can't we just drone this guy?" is a dumb and gross thing to say that will not have any effect on the election. Not as dumb and gross as when Obama joked about drone striking boys who took his daughters on dates at the White House Correspondents' Dinner a couple years ago.

The Intercept has a good article up about the ongoing prison strike and its (intentional) echoes of the Attica Prison Riot. A good reminder that whoever wins this stupid election the USA will continue to be a terrible shithole with respect to its prison population.

BI NOW GAY LATER posted:We can make a lot of meaningful reform just by making changes to the federal prison system. State prison systems require more extensive work, but its not as if its not on the agenda for one of the candidates. It's going to take a lot more than a Democratic win in November to improve the prison system to the point of being a non-embarrassment. And you know that. Anyway the article is good and doesn't get bogged down in election-talk like every lovely article about every lovely thing lately.
