i watched Annabelle: Creation and it was p fun! The people involved seem to have a cavalier attitude towards continuity/canon/character, with "potential device for scary bad things happening" introduced, used and discarded as soon as possible just to maximize the scary minutes ratio in the film. they also seem to understand they can't purely rely on the scariness of the doll itself, every time it appears people in the audience laugh and then A WORSE THING happens also lol at the smartest character throwing the doll into a well, then immediately looking inside and when poo poo happens yells "who cares! just run!"

XXX3 is in my book as having the worst action directing i have ever seen in a cinema you have an island rave scene where militia comes attack party people. let's make everything brown and murky!

The MSJ posted:Did not make it to the cinema in time for mother! so I watched The Foreigner instead. It was pretty good. The movie started quietly and then the story begins with extreme sudden-ness. No warning at all. Jackie Chan being a secret badass was not really hinted at either but the reveal happens almost as fast. He even does his trademark 'use object lying around as weapon' thing. I like that did they not shy away from showing Jackie Chan's age; his character gets hurt and beaten up a lot even when winning a fight, and he often wins by catching his foes off guard. i'm going to watch mother! completely blind (other than the first teaser and a bunch of clickbait article titles about how divisive it is) with an unsuspecting friend today. whatever the quality of the movie i expect some good entertainment

I've consumed a bunch of popular media this year where the lesson is to reject nihilism and understand that everything has meaning (e. G. Bojack horseman, nier automata, night in the woods) but somehow Spielberg decides that 2018 we should get a movie where corporate nihilism has won and the only life achievement attainable is winning a video game contest to find an obscure Easter egg hidden by Notch

i'd say the second half of the film is stronger than the first half (especially the casino scenes, bunch of wasted potential there) but i've heard fanboys cry foul over how the Force works. apparently TLJ Force is Disney-canon and not Lucas-canon i dunno Lucas-canon was just "making things float" and pushing things anyway. ghost force lightning did make me laugh though

Jumanji opening against a star War movie and turning out not to be terrible is one of the big twists in 2017. Baywatch being near unwatchable is similarly twisty
