From my experience (and I have only older less tits-out models from them) quality is lower than gws. There is a lot of fiddly bits and cleaning everything hurts soul

How many minis do you need to play average game of AT anyway?

Covermeinsunshine
Sep 15, 2021

Yeah, I think after you account for inflation, it is par for the course. But then again it is double trouble then - gw rises price to factor in inflation, and you have less money in you pocket for the same reason

I mean for fairness’s sake in those comparisons. We should knock the cost of the terrain of ash wastes box. You still need terrain for other games, after all. If not for that - box of van saar dudes of gw page is 47$, average master box for malifaux is 52$ from wyrd page. Comparing similar product 2 players set for inifnity is 125 euro so that one is kinda decent value if you can get lgs discount

Big question is - what pets? Because there is large spread of what players can have access to. I honestly didn't notice that pets in soulbound need much fixing

Yeah, I think supplement treadmill is worse than miniature prices. I mean, I compare Aos to things like conquest or asoiaf, and it comes up somewhat similar. But I'm kinda bummed about books for warcry or necromunda

Covermeinsunshine

Imho for aos supplement spread is not that bad. Broken Realms apart from fluff contained updates to various armies that were not getting battletomes for some time. Thondia is optional, so even tournament players can mostly skip it

I honestly consider myself lucky as I slept over whole Aosv1 (was playing 40k back then and was kinda bummed about number of nazis I was encountering online back then so I moved away from gw games). My adventure started at the start of 2ed with me buying malign portent book at the lgs sale. I honestly could not understand complains online as it was cool book - only later I've learned about the whole launch shitshow

It wasn't necessarily an issue before - that's an online nerd hypothesis.

Well, it had like 35 years of worldbuilding to fall back on. They've done a good job building AoS too, but the game has only been around for seven years. Second edition, where GW finally got its footing, came into being in 2018, and IMO, was pretty drat solid, lore-wise.

Again, there's nothing wrong with people liking either/or/both. Personally, I think there is plenty of room for the Old World and AoS to coexist.

50% of old hammer lore came from rpg supplements - Soulbound does make a lot of effort to fill in the blanks but it is still relatively new.

I do think the AOS changeover was good, but it was extremely Old GW to kill WFB just as a extremely huge video game was released which could have revived interest in WFB.

It is worth saying imho that TW series as much as I like it is nothing like playing game of wfb so I don't think people it would trick into it would stay en masse. I would say the closest adaptation of tabletop gw game would be Mordheim as both versions will leave you screaming as you watch your whole team gets unraveled by a few bad rolls

You could give aos ones a shot - since it's another author the only creepy stuff would be Gitz (and they are good kind of creepy).

Jack B Nimble posted:

I think the element of GW leadership that decided to kill the Old World just didn't expect TW to be a huge deal and may not even have "respected" it's success. Massive missed opportunity; imagine if a cheap mono pose 10mm model line had been released for the first four armies along with Total Warhammer 1. Something along the cost scale of kill team, and with free rules online, but you're moving around a half dozen regimental bases.

Considering track record of total war series the fact that warhammer ones were good must have been a shock to multiple people (and neither part of that trilogy was good from the get go so there is that)

Yo since this is specialist games and i'm in the middle of selling out of 40k - I've been thinking about jumping into necromunda with either new nomads or enforcers. Can someone give me a few pointers about those( I know nomads are new but maybe someone already played with them).

Nomads seem to have their best strengths in medium-long range firepower, with some decent melee options as a counterpoint. It's really hard to tell as their only rules at the moment are essentially quick start rules. They will almost certainly receive expanded options on a similar level to more established clan house gangs.

Enforcers are a gang with mediocre stats, especially on their champions, so aren't too strong, but have excellent shooting focussed skills. Their fighters are separated into Palanites, who can select a good variety of effective ranged weapons, and Subjugators, who can be more heavily armoured and have a mix of (slightly less awesome) ranged and melee weapon options.

I've done an updated enforcers guide for Goonhammer, might not get published for a few weeks, if you have PMs I can send you the draft?

Thanks. Enforcers do sound kinda bland from this. Probably time to put on my mask and my shaman hat then

Yeah - most terrain sets are limited time offer while stock last. You probably should look through lgs in your area. From my experience some boxes tend to linger

If you're in the states, I've got a starter of this+aces cards I'd let go for a reasonable price. Sadly (in more ways then one) I'm in Poland. Hmm being x-wing like sounds good tho (I reject x-wing because I dislike star wars)

So what's on offer for, say, $30 bucks a gang?

30$ is already what you pay for a gang (I mean single box) so I assume you are talking like double the box? Is 3d printing an option?

Covermeinsunshine
Sep 15, 2021

I mean if you want to fully expand your gang there are various separate boxes for necromunda - for example cops have boxes of both enforcers and subjugators. Imho the best way would be probably going on etsy and looking there for knockoffs since from what i've seen most games from other companies do not have much overlap with munda and stuff like malifaux isn't really cheaper model wise.
