And the mercy seat is awaiting,
And I think my head is burning,
And in a way I'm yearning,
To be done with all this measuring of proof.
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth,
And anyway I told the truth,
And I'm not afraid to die.

I must be hallucinating but since when has a five set match between Federer and Nadal not gone down as an all time great match? Wimbledone 2008, Australian Open 2009 off the top of my head.

I would have just said Federer has actually been playing relatively badly for 3-4 sets of every match and has been getting away with it because:
Nishikori = Bad Hip
Zverev = Bad player
Stan the Man = Bad Knee

If Nadal is fit and firing, Federer is screwed.

It's a great narrative for a Slam final, but the Geriatric Final is going to be a 5 set win for Nadal.

marsisol posted:

Lol if you think this is lasting longer than 2 hours.

Nadal wins 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 and tennis promptly dies.

Well if this keeps up we're getting a Fedal final which means Federer is getting another rear end kicking. I don't really wanna drink that early on a Sunday so that'll be a hard match to watch.

Glare Seethe posted:

Yeah. Fed vs Rafa would just be sad to watch. I really have zero belief he could beat Nadal in a major final.

They're still playing but Wawrinka's been crap so far to be honest. Fed's doing enough without peaking. Would be a nice reversal of Wimbledon 2015 if he peaked for the final instead of the semi.

Mmmmmmm

no matter how great Djoker or Nadal get they will never be as loved as Federer and when asomeone is referred to as the Greatest part of it is the human element

more John McEnroe eating crow

“[Federer will] be a factor for as long as he steps on a court but to win 7 best of five set matches and against at least two of the top 3 guys, that’s going to be extremely difficult.

[…] I’d be surprised if he didn’t get to the quarters, semis and possibly the final of a Major before he quit.

To win one? I personally don’t see that. It doesn’t mean that it’s not going to happen. Maybe he can use that as motivation. I just don’t think that physically at this stage he is going to be able to overcome the hurdles of those younger, hungrier guys.”
