hello I'm a poo poo person thank you for creating a thread specific to our poo poo My family-in-law is kind of entangled in NY politics, more on a legacy basis. family get-togethers are... interesting to say the least Gunshow Poophole has issued a correction as of 19:28 on Feb 2, 2017 |

get that OUT of my face posted:please tell us more and get my poo poo doxxed by you fuckers? sounds awesome! I'm not seriously worried and it's only the briefest of entanglement: one side of Grandparents generation did a lot of historic preservation work in the wake of the Moses/Jacobs Wars, one ended up as Commissioner of Parks for a while. There's a small family foundation now that promotes progressive orgs in the city. Other side was big in the nascent musical theater community in the 1930s. My father in law is working for Parks at a high level now. i don't end up with any particularly juicy gossip or inside track, I just occasionaly end up like, eating dinner at Gracie Mansion or going on tours of Rikers' Island Gunshow Poophole has issued a correction as of 19:56 on Feb 2, 2017 |

This has been a fun exercise in expressing how neat the connection is without having my name be extremely easily googleable. Although I'm sure it already is on SA at least. Terrorist Fistbump posted:It's a strange artifact of how 1. the national split between the parties doesn't really represent state and city issues very well and 2. election turnout is terrible in general, doubly so for state elections, and triply so for primaries. I think these general points can't be emphasized enough, and I'd add that a huge number of voters think of the "split" between the parties in terms of how it existed I dunno. In 1988, rather than in 2017. Gunshow Poophole has issued a correction as of 22:19 on Feb 2, 2017 |

theflyingexecutive posted:don't call it a ban and don't call it a tax, especially while plastic bags are still ubiquitous. ffs, don't even call it a tax internally. incentivize reusable bags and plastic bag return and get people used to the alternative. Spend the thousands of dollars you would loving lobbying and give out reusable bags (a dime apiece in bulk) and/or have plastic bag return/recycling so the can collectors can take care of it. Do it like styrofoam where you clean up something already on the downswing or like bottle deposits (see how this isn't called a tax here?) and not like Bloomberg's soda ban/tax where the chuds get riled up about are plastic bag freedoms and NY1 brings on some elderly Asian couple who can't keep their buffet afloat without plastic bags and dog owners who won't have anywhere to put their poo poo. I swear to Christ if you use your whole budget to buy loving seven figure millennial marimba and sans serif text ad campaigns calling for a ban/tax in front of every YouTube video and the bill goes down in flames on the assembly floor instead of just leveraging systems for trash pickup/recycling or pushing for more easily recycled bag materials or just loving buying the bags yourself I will be loving pissed This is pretty much my thoughts.

unbutthurtable posted:Queens voted against the endorsements last night, so it has one final vote citywide to decide if NYC DSA endorses Nixon and/or Williams. If it passes, it'll be by a hair and honestly I don't see it using much resources in that case. People vote with their feet in a volunteer-member organization. Very few people are excited enough about it that they'll do it instead of the other work they're already doing. Salazar might get a *slight* boost in volunteer canvassers from it honestly, but not much, I don't think. yup, Bronx resoundingly voted the endorsements down on Wednesday, and the overwhelming sentiment among people was what we articulated in some thread or another here vote for Nixon? hell yeah campaign for Nixon? lmao no
