The one where Homer gets paid by famous sports stars to choreograph their victory dances. It starts off with Homer doing this awful Dad-dancing which is cringe worthy in a way it doesn't even mean to be cringeworthy.

I voted for the Gaga episode, which I've seen. The only clip I haven't seen is the tik tok riff because I can't bring myself to.

In all fairness, it was just the intro and one which fox made them do at that.

The worst thing about that Lena Dunham episode wasn't homer doing drugs, it was the animation- specifically just how wrong the timing seems. It starts off with Homer and Marge arguing and she does her weird groan but it just seemed so drawn out and real.

It was really the timing that made the whole episode feel like I was dreaming more than any amount of scenes of Homer tripping balls.

Tbh, I see this as more of a low point for Playboy. How long before Marge ends up on brazzers?

I think season 11 was better than 10, if nothing more than for the behind the laughter episode.

Series 9. This scene always felt so out of place for the Simpsons, like too gruesome for a non-thoh episode.

I also feel that the newer episodes have some issues with how black people are portrayed, like there's an episode where the family are watching WNBA and Bart shouts out "you go girl" to Lisa Leslie. She then responds by correcting his grammar.Maybe I'm reading too much into it but it seemed like they thought the idea of a black person correcting a white persons grammar was funny in itself.

Homer thinking about a sandwich in a car when you think he's thinking about fukkin and sukkin is funnier that Peter randomly talking about Paul Weller going paintballing because one is a joke with a setup and punchline and one is a gag that you'd get on a sketch show.

Yeah. Those fg cut aways are available in sketch form and they're so much better for it.

This.

My biggest problem with the Simpsons movie was that it didn't feel like the Simpsons. Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to change Wolfcastle into Arnold? It had to get "big" and it felt anemic because of it. Bringing back Scorpio would have been bad for many reasons, but the biggest is that he's a likeable character and seemingly down to earth people's person from our perspective.

Granted I haven't seen an episode since 2006 or something...

Wolfcastle being literally Arnold is another example of neo Simpsons needing to explain every joke. Rainer was basically Arnold but was better when just called Rainer because then you're ripping on a Hollywood stock character (could also be van damme or lundgren) instead of gossipping about celebs.

E: because the Simpsons was so good at sending up tropes, I used to think that Matlock, macgyver and jay Sherman were all their own creations like itchy and scratchy.

When I think of a pointless celebrity cameo episode, I think of that one where Homer literally drops through a celebrity couple's skylight and spends the rest of the episode giving them relationship advice. I tried to refresh my memory on the details, but then I instead found an episode about Mandy Moore stripteasing at a baseball game and then later pole-dancing in front of Bart and moaning while Homer gives her a massage. Homer then crashes a blimp, but is fine.

Like, alright.

There's some great episodes in season 9 and some major stinkers. It really is the indicator of how the direction. On one hand you have he episodes where Lisa thinks she's getting dumber, the movementarians, where homer climbs the mountains but then there's the ones with the trillion dollar bill, Moes girlfriend, the funzo Christmas one with sucked, Halloween one sucked etc

Trillion dollar bill should be switched with Homer climbing the mountain imo.

You know what has to be in the top three worst things about modern Simpsons? Whenever Homer breaks randomly into song.

It’s always these drawn-out, overly “clever” riffs on existing songs played like homer is just ad-libbing new lyrics off the top of his head, like two and three verses of super punny meaningless crap out of nowhere.

I mean an occasional snatch of misheard lyrics in the old days was funny and in character, but this is just like ... wtf

E: oh god and they’re straight up doing amnesia episodes now, kill me

It’s pretty bad. But nowhere near the worst. I liked ‘smell you later’, the TV guns, and the first ever joke about Trump being a bad president.

Today I had a newish episode on in the background. Lisa was falling in love with a fat dumb kid who was a competitive eater, and Marge was worried she’d end up with a version of Homer. So she was encouraging Homer to take Lisa out on a ‘date’ so she’d get a better impression of men or something. And then Marge wore a dress designed by a project runway winner and I think I dropped a load of IQ points typing that out.

I remember when I used to watch hollyoaks because it was on the same channel as the Simpsons rather than the other way around.

One of the things about modern Simpsons is that it sounds so stilted, like the actors are in different rooms. There are often some pretty noticeable pauses between lines of dialogue and a lot of it is read very slowly and deliberately. That, and there just seems to be the "Whoops, I forgot to tell a joke!" thing where there'll be dialogue, and someone's just realized there hasn't been a joke in a while and will just do some monkeycheese joke or physical gag.

Ugh. Like in the safety salamander episode. So, Homer is giving a speech and the crowd are loving him. Cue Carl "and to think all these years I was a gecko man" *flicks away gecko that was in his pocket because that's where people keep pets*

Wrt animation, as bad as it currently is, I still prefer it to the early 00s when the outlines were stupidly thick.

Also, as someone who only remembers new Lisa, holy poo poo was her character just completely destroyed.

The only one that really gets me is the fugu episode. Like when Homer says to Bart "I like your sheets" to Bart. I mean on the one hand, yes there's a joke that he can't think of anything better to say but I also like to think it shows the unconditional parental love. Sure Bart's a screw up but he's his screw up.

I completely forgot about the Berlin Wall-esk area code episode. I think that or the season after was the last one I bothered to watch live, to actually go out of my way to see.

For a series that, when they cared said that the increased commercial time really hurt the story telling they really do like the over the top A plot and boring meandering B plot with a lot of throw away non sequitur sight gags.

I miss when a lot of the "random" quality came out more of ignorance than throw words at the wall and add a few more syllables or add an m. Like Homer trying to sound smarter than he is and using competely different word.

There were a couple of good jokes in that episode (Homer dialling to make a complaint about he area code changing but using the old area code in doing so) which just shows everything else up as the crap it is.
