I honestly have a decent amount of faith in the Bengals front office these days which is a hell of a thing, they've done an above-average job of stocking the team with talent

my guess is zeitler gets the money truck, whitty gets let go, and we either take OT early, go hard in FA, or both

hopefully we get someone better than ogbuehi

it's gonna be the texans or broncos anyway, because romo's gonna go to a team that's just a QB away from being a SB contender

I'd take Romo over Rivers at this point but LA isn't on that list because it's a poo poo situation

ty for ignoring the second half of my post where I said literally exactly that

the 49ers shouldn't be on that list for the same reason, they're arguably a worse landing spot than the browns for a QB who's in win-now mode

me, I just hope he goes to the Texans and I get to see him his backup beat the bengals in a heartbreakingly close game that we blow in the last minutes of regulation, for old times sake

And had he torn an ACL in camp, he'd have made basically nothing over the same time frame. It worked out for him because he successfully gambled on staying healthy. More power to him that he got his money, but it seems dumb to not get a guarantee even if it lowers your payday a bit at the end of the day.

Volkerball posted:

No he wouldn't have. You can't just cut a player who got injured to avoid paying them. The team and the player have a deadline after the injury to come to terms on an injury settlement, or the player goes on IR, where he gets paid. Or if they come to an injury settlement, based around his weekly salary, he gets paid. He had millions wrapped up in different incentives, and a lot of them were really basic poo poo like "be on the roster." That's where the bulk of the money is in all contracts. Guaranteed money only means something when it comes to making sure you get paid if you get cut, or to protect yourself against being cut. And since he's out signing one year deals where he's filling an immediate need, he doesn't need to worry about that. It's a total non-story and I don't know why people keep giving him poo poo about it.

Huh. I didn't know that the system for keeping injured players compensated was this comprehensive and not based around contractual guarantees (or getting hosed, I guess).

I'm gonna be contrary and say he'd still be better served with an agent and a multiyear contract with guarantees :colbert:
