Aside from times where injuries have left holes in the lineup, Kunitz has generally been off of Crosby's line and off the first power play, at least. Conor Sheary has mercifully put an end to Kunitz with Crosby for the most part. Also free Hornqvist. I miss him on the top line even if Sheary and Guentzel are probably legitimately the most talented wingers Sid's ever had outside of Team Canada. I have no idea why Hornqvist is on the third line except to try and balance out Bonino's horrible fancystats with Hornqvist's awesome ones.

but you could have one team retain 50% and another team retain 50% on top of that, though you couldn't take it further because a player can only have salary retained by up to two teams i have a hard time imagining how such a scenario would happen without everybody involved getting smacked down for their obvious collusion but i guess it's technically possible

JoelJoel posted:Is the second retention applied to the principle or the balance? i don't know to be honest, i'm guessing it's the balance because two teams giving a third team a player literally for free sounds like too big of an oversight even for the nhl. i'd assume it also needs to be two separate deals, though it could probably effectively be a three way deal - the penguins are actually paying less than half of mark streit's salary because philadelphia retained 4.7% before sending him to tampa bay, and tampa retained 50% of the remainder, and while it was technically two trades, it could probably be looked at as effectively a three way deal as the speed with which streit was sent to pittsburgh would make it seem likely a deal was in place before streit was even traded to tampa.

you gotta admire sestito's efficiency though, some goons are sent out every game for a fight here, a dirty hit there, spending 95% of their time mostly just making GBS threads up the ice trying (and failing) to play real hockey. sestito just goes out there and gets into a fight, throws a dirty hit, and gets ejected all in the first three shifts in his first game up from wilkes-barre

malkin had to fight wheeler anyway despite sestito being there, then sestito had a literally 100% pointless fight with thorburn off of a faceoff, and even if hypothetically these two events "defused tensions" or "blew off steam" or whatever "the code" says these things do, we'll never know because like 10 minutes later sestito's garbage hit got everybody pissed at each other again anyway with two and a half periods of hockey left to play. oh yeah and he literally broke enstrom's face as far as i know. the worst part is going to be when sestito gets like two games because enstrom looked sestito in the face before turning his back to him and getting destroyed.

but seriously they probably should have suspended malkin for the last game and, i dunno, at least called some penalties on buff and lowry if not handed out supplemental discipline for them too. this poo poo happened because the league officials hosed up and malkin made a lovely hit in retaliation for lovely unpenalized winnipeg hits, then because malkin got off scott free everybody knew winnipeg would want to get back at him so sestito gets called up for "protection" and then he went killed a guy who didn't even do anything but wear a jets sweater. now who loving knows what the next game between the pens and jets holds because there's sure to be some hard feelings from this now too

is designing a bigger net harder than adjusting goalie equipment? because it's going to take them until next season, at earliest, to complete a change in goaltending equipment that was supposed to be accomplished this summer. according to the nhl, there's too much goalie, not enough net to shoot at. goalies are already bitching about the new pants being less protective, imagine how butthurt they'll be over new chest protectors (and having to wear smaller jerseys but those don't protect anything except their sv%) so hey, let them keep their protection, just use it to keep pucks out of a bigger net then.
