You gotta give Doug Armstrong credit for one thing: He knew this Blues' roster wasn't a true competitor when he traded Shattenkirk. Of course, that's entirely his fault.

It's kind of sad to see the Sedins' play fall off so dramatically, but they are getting to the end of a long career mostly spent being mashed in to the end boards by opposing D. The way Torts used them probably did some real damage as well. Also imagine how bad that D would be if Hutton, Stecher and Tryamkin didn't turn in to decent players.

Sit the Twins down and explain that the rebuild is happening and the team would be open to moving them to a contender if they wish and I'm sure they'd think about it. Their legacy here is cemented, they're the two greatest players in franchise history and nothing short of a shooting spree is going to change that. I'm sure this conversation has already happened

They're 11 points behind Calgary for 4th in the Pacific, 6 points behind the Blues for the 2nd wild card spot who have a game in hand + the easiest schedule and 8 points behind Nashville. It's hard to see them able to overcome the deficit and knock anybody out. I really can't decide if Iginla getting traded for literally nothing is funny or sad.

I was also considering from the Avs side of things - there were probably a few teams willing to give up something, anything for Iginla and the best Sakic could do is a 4th round pick if the Kings make the playoffs and nothing if they don't. That's like, Benning-level GMing work.

I, for one, look forward to the day when the NHL mandates razor sharp steel blades be implanted in to every stick and attempting to hack the limbs off of opposing players is just part of the game. Then all the old timers will complain about how in their day all they had was the fibreglass composite blades and dadgummit you really had to work hard at removing people's fingers and how all these kids have it all so much easier these days.
