To be fair, though, these sort of wanky, shithead parties are always the first ones to arrive and camp out a prominent spot with a giant rear end stupid loving banner at any event where they think they can get a pic in the papers.
The don't actually do anything productive or helpful to any cause or event that they poisonously and forcibly associate themselves with, and nobody wants them there, but you're often forced to endure their presence as long as they're not actively being twatish cunts.

I guess that if McDonnell was booked to speak those banners were there long before he turned up to do his five minute bit, so he didn't have much choice other than moving it somewhere else, which night not've been an option in terms of moving the audio/visual equipment necessary for delivering a speech to a large crowd.

I've been to any number of anti racism demos and counter-marches, and you always see the twats from the SWP lurking around with the biggest banners and black bin bags full of ready-made SWP placards that they're trying to hand out to anyone gullible enough to take one. Never see them up front when the bricks start flying though.

Aristocrat in court over allegedly racist Facebook post about Gina Miller posted:

An aristocrat has appeared in court charged with writing menacing Facebook posts about the Brexit campaigner Gina Miller and a Cameroonian man.

Rhodri Philipps, the 4th Viscount St Davids, wore a tweed gilet over a navy suit as he appeared at Westminster magistrates court and refused to stand in the dock when addressed as Mr St Davids, only rising when addressed as Lord St Davids.

Philipps pleaded not guilty to three charges of sending malicious communications under section 127 of the Communications Act 2003.

One of the charges related to a Facebook post written on 7 November last year about Miller, who successfully challenged the government over its plan to give notice to leave the EU without an act of parliament. Philipps allegedly wrote: “£5,000 to the first person to ‘accidentally’ run over this bloody troublesome first-generation immigrant … If this is what we should expect from immigrants, send them back to their stinking jungles.”

The prosecutor, Kate Mulholland, said the crown would seek enhanced sentences because the posts were racially aggravated.

Philipps spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address and to plead not guilty. He laughed and mouthed “wanker” when deputy senior district judge Tan Ikram prohibited him from contacting Matthew Steeples, who first reported the post to police, as a condition of granting him bail. He is also prevented from contacting Miller.

The trial will be held at Westminster magistrates court on 10 July and is expected to last a day.

In converting European law into UK law through the so-called great repeal bill, the government will grant itself the power, as its white paper states, “to correct the statute book where necessary”. “Correcting the statute book” will come to be seen as one of the great political euphemisms of our time.

The corrections will take the form of secondary legislation, which means using something called a statutory instrument. The government estimates that 800 to 1,000 of these instruments will be required – on top of the usual total – and their impact will be profound, as they are dealing with huge issues. In practice, there is almost nothing parliament can do to challenge them. As the Brexit analyst Ian Dunt points out, the bill is “shaping up to be the single biggest executive power grab in Britain’s postwar history”.

Statutory instruments cannot be amended. Due to a combination of government control over the parliamentary timetable and a number of arcane and archaic procedures, hardly any have been blocked in the 70 years of their existence. Already their power is freely abused. They are supposed to be reserved for technical matters: straightening out laws in ways that don’t alter our relationship to the state. Increasingly, they are used to sneak more significant changes through parliament. As the journalist Jane Fae reports, 1,900 a year were used, on average, by the last Labour government (a high enough number, which probably incorporated plenty of abuses); under the Conservatives this has risen to more than 3,000.

After promising “an outright ban” on fracking under national parks, David Cameron’s government reversed the promise by smuggling a statutory instrument through parliament. This is likely to set the pattern, in a new Conservative government, for “correcting the statute book”, not least because, May’s administration explains, parliamentary scrutiny will have to be “balanced” by “the speed of this process”. Dunt observes that “nearly half a century of workers’ rights, environmental standards, health and safety laws, consumer protections, animal rights, and countless other areas are now at the mercy of Conservative ministers, who can use a rainy Friday afternoon, when everyone is down the pub, to finally start rubbing out bits of law they never liked”.

“Due to the vast absolute difference among the 1%, top income earners experience ‘relative disadvantage’,” the report, A Relational Analysis of Top Incomes and Wealth, states. “They are disadvantaged compared to others at the top, while being aware of their advantage compared to the general population.”

A senior investment banker, who earns hundreds of thousands of pounds a year, said he “just doesn’t feel particularly wealthy” compared with other parents at his children’s private school who, he said, were sitting on £100m-plus family fortunes.

“I feel like I’m fairly well off and I earn multiples of the hundred thousands,” the banker told a researcher from the LSE’s International Inequalities Institute. “But I feel very poor in the context of the classmates [of my children] ... Their parents can spend a lot more time with them, because none of them really work, or some of them work but it’s working on their own terms: they might run a hedge fund but they can take the kids to school.

The unnamed investment banker said earning a few hundred thousand “does not feel that great”.

The investment banker said £100m was a lot of money – but “not a ridiculous amount of money”. He told the researcher he was “fairly confident” that a driven and passionate individual could “start from zero and get to £100m within 20 years”.

If people aren't voting in their best interests the best hing you can do, rather than talking about them being stupid ignorant racist cunts on the internet, is try to get involved in some grass roots activism and show your principles by example and hope to win people over.
Without the money, power, or other resources of a major political party it's about the best thing you can do. But it takes a lot of time, a lot of patience, and a huge resistance to burnout because political activism is often soul destroying stuff.

3. Backslide into Toryism.

There's this really persistent myth that Scotland is inherently left wing, but the tories were strongly represented across Scotland for most of the 20th century, often having near parity in voteshare with Labour. It was really only Thatcher that murdered their support there, but now I suppose people are old enough to have forgotten or young enough not to remember.

You can nudge a country on a certain path and still navigate towards a certain, far away goal. In the case of the UK a deeper integration into the EU for example would have been much more effective in furthering the goals of the left (e.g. worker rights, social welfare, you name it) than the idea of leaving because with the perfect being the enemy of the good. Or, to quote Shakespeare not Voltair "striving to better, oft we mar what's well".
