This confuses me, too. What does their publisher have to do with them doing a DLC with a mech modeled in-house? How do you/we know that they werent already working on it before Paradox got involved, but shelved it for sake of time at some point?

Sorry, but Paradox the Publisher does not impose Paradox Development Studio's DLC model on their other publishees, so what you are saying makes no sense. The company that publishes Cities: Skylines didnt start pumping out DLC when Paradox became the Publisher so assuming that HBS is releasing a DLC because Paradox is their publisher is a bit anachronistic. Also, everyone does DLC these days, plus HBS said that they would definitely do DLC if the game was successful, plus they had to cut a lot in the months leading up to the game's release so there is probably plenty of material for them to work with. I'm not trying to be a jerk but it just seems like there are a lot of assumptions being made here.

Maybe because of Paradox's investments, maybe not, it doesn't matter because I was just making an off-the-cuff comment, not trying to disparage the game, the developer, or the publisher.
Fair enough. I didnt take it as you trying to disparage anyone and I'm not trying to start an argument about it. I guess I've just seen enough of the "hurrrr paradox DLC model" jokes so I said something about it.

Thats not the point though. What if there is a brawl going on and the mech I am shooting with just happens to be behind an enemy mech with weak legs? WHat if I chasing down an assassination target? What if I flanked the mech and my other mechs, that also shot it in the rear, happened to hit the legs a bunch and I would rather target a leg to knock the target over and thus knock it back an initiative phase rather than simply weakening its rear armor? There is no sensible reason that I should not be able to chose to shoot something I can see; you can see the legs (and the arms!) of a mech from behind.

Archonex posted:

So I mentioned it before but Roguetech has a fully integrated Starmap that everyone can play on at once. With the war mod this means that everyone is fighting with the nations to take it over as independent mercenary companies (That can opt to sign up for a nation. But more on that later.).

If you go to the Star Map and click on stars you might notice a box in the bottom left that gives a name like (insert mercenary company name and their character name here). This means that a player is online and taking contracts in that area.

If they're at the front lines, they're either a part of a faction or using the wartime conditions to get premium rates. I think wartime contracts give some really good dosh. I've noticed as much as a 20% increase in contracts in those areas. Though maybe this is just luck.

Any mercenaries kept on retainer to a House bordering space to an invading Clan (Hilariously enough, Wolf is leading the charge btw.) ala like what happens in the campaign are obviously going to show up to keep the Exodus Road shut tight too. Since it appears that the last time they didn't Wolf took about all of the northwest quadrant of that area of the map.

And since i'm posting about the war content of the mod. Currently it seems like most of the action is centered around the west-most exit point of the Road as part of keeping Wolf (or another clan. More on that in a bit.) from basically pulling a Goonswarm and taking over a huge chunk of the map again. Meanwhile Wolf had almost total control of Clan Space and the entire NW of the Inner Sphere when I first started, having crippled or taken out every competing clan except for Clan Steel Viper and a small link of super-impoverished states owned by Clan Ghost Bear along the east-most Exodus Road path.

Now they're taking it from all directions, have lost the access point to Inner Sphere space (again, unless you have a few industrial worlds/research worlds it's super tough to stay resupplied in replacement parts there. A beachhead is necessary to the Lyran's and Draconis Combine. Clan Ghost Bear pretty much purged them entirely from the east-moth path too and is creeping up on Steel Viper. On top of that, Clan Hell Horse and Clan Jade Falcon appear to have some players re-enacting the Clan version of Mechwarrior 4/5 and are resurrecting their house clans, having retaken systems in the dead center of all of the ) and it seems like a bunch of merc companies. They seem to be pushing hard against Wolf as well at the moment.
This is sounds completely insane and fascinating but at the same time really :aaaaa: and on one hand I want to be a part of it but on the other I'm terrified for my sanity. I cant loving believe all of this is a loving mod. I cant wait for HBS to do something official so its more likely to be more balanced, sane, and more widely used.

edit: I and I realize now that I also wish I didnt have a macguffin ship to fly around in but wanting to ditch that leads to mods.

Also, did they change how rep hits work? I did maybe 5 contracts in a Career Mode game and that was enough to get the Capella Confederation to hate my guts, which seems a bit....extreme?

Or a satellite overhead (or my loving dropship) that could do this? I should not have to have one mech at each of the cardinal directions just to "tag" enemy assets to get them shooting at me rather than the base, because thats horseshit too.
