Instead I'll do my usual routine - wake up, roll over despondently to see how badly things have been hosed up overnight, and then use all that lovely rage and despair to lift heavy things. 2015 got me a new bench PR, so I've high hopes for 2017

I woke up with such severe tendonitis that my arms are locked in a 45 degree Barbie posture. In the absence of lifting, as an outlet I am exploring the world of Dutch nutter breathing exercises instead. The stress is real! a 45 degree Barbie posture is just about perfect for squats, my dude EDIT - re: 2015, I was in the same boat as Ober. Not at all enthused by Ed or the manifesto, but willing to vote Labour to keep the Tories out. I also didn't expect Labour to win, as I recall, but was surprised, horrified and enraged by the drubbing they wound up taking

spectralent posted:No, I think failing to deliver a crushing victory would be enough given how awful her campaign's been so far. This was meant to be a formality, and they've come out severely bloodied. Unless it turns out the entire time everything was wrong and they were really ahead and had nothing to worry about they'll be out for blood. Yeah, anything less than a landslide and her head will roll. Even though they're still going to win, she's embarrassed the party and thrown away what should have been an easy victory.

Halisnacks posted:How would this untenable position be acted on though? I will give the Tories that they seem committed to power above all (see: the swift falling behind May with minimal bickering in the last Tory leadership election). How could they pretend to be the "strong and stable" party with their 3rd leader in less than two years? By brazening it out and relying on the right wing press to cover their arses, just like forever?

God, I just want this all to be over already so I can get back to good old fashioned standard despondency.ThomasPaine posted:I think the interesting thing about the modern Tory party is that it's really not all that similar to the old school tough Tory party that Churchill etc symbolise. There's a New Conservatives as much as there was a New Labour, and it's way more about aggressive privatisation and shrinking the state than it is about securing a strong nation-state. Modern Tories keep up the rhetoric of the older incarnation (May in particular does this, which might well be why she was seen as a decent replacement for Cameron) and in some small respects (e.g. authoritarian powers given to the police and security services) they keep up an element of the tradition but in actual policy it's neoliberalism all the way. This is a really good post, my dude. Can I share it around a bit outside UKMT? I think a lot of people might find it an interesting take.
