cumshitter posted:know of any sources that go over this? i know a few people buying into it who arent pro-trump but seem to be jumping on it for some reason and i dont know enough about email pornmachines to figure it out or explain poo poo to them if you follow the citation to The Forensicator's blog it shows what his "investigation" consists of. basically, he looked at the time stamps of of when the files (specifically, DNC computer files released publicly by "Guccifer 2.0" (who also is a fake hacker made up by the dnc to pin the leak on russia hacking in this theory)) were created / last edited. thats pretty much it. the claims made are that 1) because all of the timestamps are recorded in eastern standard time, that means that they simply must have been copied onto another computer or file system configured to record time in EST. this is notable apparently because if Russian Hackers had downloaded the files directly to romania they wouldnt be recorded in EST or something. 2) the times recorded imply that the files were copied relatively quickly, so fast that it's would be Physically Impossible to have downloaded them through the internet from romania. whether or not this is true is apparently debatable, but it ignores the fact that a hacker would have probably compromised the network by moving through a random unsecured device (personal computer or maybe a fuckin printer) that got connected connected to the (probably otherwise secure) DNC network and would have had to download the files to the fully compromised device to move them out of the system anyway. apparently all this is evidence that the files got put onto a usb stick (perhaps the one that was not on Seth Rich's body after the shooting!?) and is evidence that a leaker copied the files rather than them being hacked. my local DSA chapter shared the Nation article on facebook the other day also, so i looked into it. seems like its stupid r/the_donald nonsense that has been laundered up through a couple sources until it got picked up by a leftish "distrust the state" type, who wrote the article because he doesnt like the anti-russia sentiment that the hacking story has been encouraging lately. oddly the author makes up random details and touts the credibility of their sources even when it makes little sense to. i dont particularly trust the DNC or the intel community either, but without better sources or some evidence actually showing something of meaning, this article is little more than chud-theory that picked up traction amongst people who arent happy about the democrats.
